Rails Connect RPM-SM.5

I need to purchase about a dozen surface mounted point motors for my fiddle yard and have always used the Peco PL-11 ones.

However, I've noticed that Rails Connect do a 5 pack of their own product at a considerably cheaper price.

Has anyone experience of using these and are they comparable in performance?

Many thanks
Martin
I'm sure I'll get used to cream first soon.

Martin, I have some of these in the fiddle yard on Hillsden, they are if I remember correctly designed and built by DCc concepts.

They work very well except the hole for inserting the points tie bar is a little on the large size and can easily jump off.

To cure this I added a little bleak was thinking of making it more permanent with say epoxy, not yet done though.

There was a similar question asked in NGF Facebook group around two or three weeks ago, I am sure someone suggested a better way to sort the problem unfortunately cannot remember what it was

Hi Martin,

I have been playng around with point motors recently and had the same problem with the hole jumping off the peg on the tie bar. :hmmm:

I also had problems fitting them in the space I had.

This video may help.

Thanks @Nbodger and @Phoenix Mike and Kevin.

Space isn't an issue for me so that isn't a problem but the large hole for the tie bar could be.
Is it any worse than the Peco motors?
It does seem about the same size to me in the video.
And yes, Mike's solution of some type of cap should help.
Cheers

Hi Martin,

Sorry I forgot to mention how I fixed the problem of the bar on the motor jumping off the peg on the point tie bar. :-[

I cut the peg off, and threaded a panel pin through the hole that was next to it.

Then threaded it through the hole on the point motor and trimmed it down.

This seemed to work for me

All best wishes

PS. If you want to try them out and see how they work for you, I'd
be happy to send them on to you  :D

Hi Kevin @Phoenix

That is very kind but I've ordered a pack so I'll see how I get on.

Your  idea re the panel pins seems to be a good workaround so I'll give that a go if I encounter problems.

I'm waiting on a few bits n bobs but hope to be in a position to move forward with the point motors probably later next week.

I am a bit of a dullard regarding wiring etc.
I can do it but it's never neat and tidy and I certainly don't enjoy it so I have a friend, who is a wizz, coming round to help so hopefully it'll all work and, just as importantly, look good.

By the way, I've also ordered the Blue Railways wireless controller and receiver which I think you use or have used which will, hopefully, make life easier.

Cheers

Seems to me that what's needed is a small grommet fitted into the hole to reduce its size so it better suits the Peco tiebar pip.  Probably something that could be 3D printed very easily.
