Browning 9mm

I don't know if it just around here but the collections from pillar boxes used to be around 4 or 5 pm, now mon-fri 9am, and saturday 7am. no sunday collection of course.
does royal mail still want us to send letters, or would they rather stick to putting leaflets through our letter boxes, which it seems to be most of what they do.

Not content with putting one of each junk mail through my letterbox, my postie takes the attitude he'll get rid of them quicker by shoving sometimes 3 or more of each through ::)

But therein lies the problem. In times of yore people used to do strange things like write on paper with a pen, put the written sheet in an envelope, write an address on said envelope, stick a stamp on said envelope by licking the backside of the Queen and then thumping her in the fizzog.

Sadly no more. It's called progress.

On the evidence of ones I know, I take it to be the last guaranteed collection time. The box at the supermarket across the road from the office, more often than not, gets emptied around lunchtime by the same Postie who delivered to us and hour or so earlier, so I guess is incorporated in his delivery schedule to do if possible but not guaranteed. The one outside the post office I pass on the way home is invariably emptied around 5pm, so as to cause maximum disruption as they have to park the van partly obstructing a busy junction and a bus stop...

Our local box has a similar nortice but collection is around 4pm as it has always been. The top of the box has acquired a rather nice Remembrance Day topper decorated with a warhorse, a soldier and a carpet of flowers.

Nice, Mike.
Ours is usually decorated on top with empty takeaway boxes, fag ends etc :(

You can see the 9am M-F 7am Sa label, but today's collection was 4pm as usual.

Our excellent postie, may he live long and prosper, empties the post box at the end of our road after he has delivered our letters, so mid-morning usually.

I too miss the days of getting a proper letter through the post, and I can't remember the last time I actually wrote one myself. I feel quite sorry for postie because he has to lug around all this junk mail which he knows full well will go straight in the bin. Ah well.

Cheers,

Chris

I extract the free Tenalady/TenaMan vouchers first and give them to the care home in the village. Ensures I also get a coffee and chat with lovely staff there. Always coffee-break when I turn up.
