What's the point of discussion forum if you can't discuss N gauge related items?

You can, there are plenty of examples of it.

What there isn't any point in doing (in my humble opinion) is to resurrect the same subject under a different heading, when the original discussion had reached a logical conclusion and/or there is by consensus nothing further to talk about.

@ROY 58

It wasn't the exactly the same subject. One thread was dealing with contacting or being contacted by the owner of a small business.

The other was about who would miss the range he produced, simple two topics not one.

Similar threads and topics often come up on forums posted by different people. Suggesting doing a search and not bothering the forum with an old topic or closing the thread isn't in my humble opinion proactive, helpful or the right way of dealing with the post.

You might not like the thread so don't reply!

Unfortunately, the tone of your (now locked) topic this morning came across, certainly to me at least, as less to start a discussion about, possibly, alternative sources for parts, but more as sour grapes over the way your previous topic was received.

Maybe that wasn't your intention, in which case a better choice of wording might elicit more meaningful discussion.

No sour grapes intended and the wording as far as I concerned was fine, even though jokingly I quoted someone's else's words for the description of the parts.
Thanks for your input and as for this thread it's merely to find out what the purpose of this forum is for?

I was looking for a meaningful discussion.

There is space for reasoned respectful discussion of almost a anything relevant to the theme.

There is no place for unsupported personal demands, and repetitive subjects resurecting old topics, particularly when launched in what could be interpreted as ambiguous or provocative language because you didn't like the answer you got first time...

That your previous thread has been deleted is perhaps significant. If it was deleted by a moderator, that should signal to you the inappropriateness of the direction it took for the ethos of the forum. If it was you that deleted it because you didnt like the outcome, that's only going to be further detrimental to your reputation on the forum.

Your thread this morning, met the same fate as your previous one for the same reason - a lack of explanation for why you are starting the thread resulting in ambiguity as to your motives. You never did tell us why you wanted to contact the former owner; and you don't specify any purpose in this mornings thread. Given the recent history it would have been very wise to explain the rationale and how it differed to the previous thread...

i never bought anything from the brass parts supplier==mostly because of my ignorance of what bits i actually needed.

So--yes--i would like to know if there are other suppliers of such bits and pieces.
i used to be indecisive...but now i'm not so sure.

@PLD

I deleted my first thread as it was childishly locked and I couldn't reply.

The thread I started this morning was to find out if anyone missed the products that N Bass produced, nothing more than that. I can't understand why no one can understand the actual purpose of the post?

I apologise if anyone else has asked or mentioned missing N Brass products and I'm unaware of any outcome relating to the subject.

So the first thread was locked, and you thought what was needed was another one? Intriguing tack.

There are thousands of threads on here, making it extremely obvious that you can, of course, discuss n gauge. Or other scales. Or beer. Or the weather. The common factor in the discussions you start going sour is you.

There is a search function. If you wish to look up N Brass then you'll find a number of topics.

Perhaps if you genuinely want to know then starting a topic specifically asking if people have found whatever parts you wanted would be better received. Unfortunately at present everything you type appears to have some sort of bizarre (and unclear) agenda.

harper

Two completely separate threads !

Only going sour as the forum members replying can't seem to comprehend what I'm asking in each thread.

I do not want any specific parts and I'm not asking for any which I have stated at least three times now. Why is it hard to understand that?

No hidden agenda. What hidden agenda do you think there is?

ntpntpntp

Well, starting the thread with the phrase "obsolete toy train parts" probably didn't come across very well to some folk.

Consider the way the thread developed; then consider which was actually the "Childish" act: - Was it to Lock the thread preventing further deterioration or was it to delete it? I suspect the majority of forum members would say the latter...  :hmmm:

So what DO you actually want? You've never actually said in any of your threads which is why in your own words:

Indeed - and nor does this sentence from a few posts back.

QuoteI deleted my first thread as it was childishly locked and I couldn't reply.

If the OP wants people to discuss things properly with them, I suggest that they remove the chip off their shoulder and try discussing things in a sensible manner themselves.

I started the thread so why was I prevent in responding to it? I did actually end it in my last post on the thread. Doesn't the original poster have the right to delete their own post?
Well actually I have stated what I want in all of my threads-contact details and if anyone missed N Brass parts.
I keep saying I do want any actual parts!

njee20

You were 'prevented' from responding to it because the moderators had deemed that it was becoming detrimental to the forum and not constructive. You chose to take your ball and delete it. That's your prerogative.

Perhaps the outcome would have been different if you'd started the threads in the opposite order. If today's had come, lamenting the demise of N Brass, first then maybe people would have been a bit more receptive. But again, even your wording was bizarre. The opening post to such a thread is "Dunno about anyone else, but finding it a real pain that since N Brass went I can't find X Y Z. Has anyone else struggled since Nick shut up shop and found any alternative sources?".

As it stands you appear to be rubbing quite literally everyone up the wrong way. So either your conduct is an issue, or everyone else has a problem.
