Are you trying some air to rail refuelling there, RailGooner? If so, your drogue looks a bit slack...

:D I noticed that too, after I'd packed her away and posted the pic! But it reminds me of some of the neat tricks that were possible in the simulator.

With two 'chicks' on the pods we managed to, in an instant drop the landing gear, deploy air breaks, throttle back on 2 & 3 and engage full reverse thrust on 1 & 4. The result was a sudden enough deceleration that the chicks overtook us while still connected! :D

I was no pilot though - I was groundcrew. I remember one of our Captains was such a great pilot that he could, consistently and at will, loop the simulator! An amazing sight to see even in CGI. 8)

Since Dapol started selling off class 56s in their monthly special offers, I've been half hoping they wouldn't include the BR blue version, and half hoping that they would. Anyway, in July they did...

I'm seriously considering one of those myself.

How close is the blue to proper rail blue? A lot of Dapol stuff I've seen in the past has seemed too green/yellowish.

Not bad, but not correct. It's way closer than the class 73, but not as good as the class 33 by Dapol, or my Farish diesels. The photo below appears reasonably true to colours on my laptop at least and you should be able to see the differentiation, although the Dapol 33 and the Fraish 37 have both been weathered by TMC.

Mmmm. Thanks for that, Bruce. It confirms my suspicions, but it's probably good enough for seventy quid ;)

I think you are spot on with this sir, if you are happy with it (and that is a good price) then it’s great.

My personal view on colours is that if you wanted to, you can find a photo that shows any shade. To me your 56 just looks like it’s in bright sunlight.

I know its not n gauge, but guess who just walked away from a nearby retailer with three carrier bags of Hornby Dublo track (198 pieces) for a very cheeky price.   >:D >:D >:D

Well, I had a bit of a Dapol weekend:

The 56 was inspired by Bruce, amongst others, and the HST was the result of a number of saved searches on ebay.

It turns out, however, that both have their shortcomings.

The 56 will not go round my test track without derailing. I think it's just objecting to the 9" set track curves - does anyone know the minimum radius it'll go round? There's nothing in the instructions, but I seem to recall that R2 (whatever that is) is specified as the min for quite a lot of stuff.

And the HST: well, where to start. But the main problem is that someone has been inside and rewired it, so that the unpowered car short circuits. The/a previous owner had put insulation tape over the bogie contacts to make it useable, but I think it's going to have to go and see a specialist at some point soon.

I'm not sending it back, because it's exactly what I want, so will just have to fix it. The headlights don't work on the powered car either, so that'll need looking at too.

@Yet_Another  I have just acquired a Dapol 56. My test (Kato) track is a 4' x 2' oval with a passing track. One of the pieces in the passing track is the tight radius, (sorry I do not the radius off hand - will look it up a bit later), curve and the 56 derails if using that piece, so they obviously do not like tight radii! It runs beautifully on the outer oval.

I used to be indecisive - now I'm not - I don't think.
