Isn't the cat both dead and alive until you take a look?

Schrodinger eh?

Ooo, you intellectual types, what are you like.

Well, I've checked my crystal ball, (given it a shake and let the 'snow' settle) and I'm going with a red oxide plank wagon.

I do think the one illustrated is actually an early Graham Farish example rather than Peco. On the base it has moulded writing: "Made in England by Graham Farish". With the eye of faith you can make out "England" "Graham" "Farish" in the photo. There are also slight differences in the geometry of the box holding the coupler.

I bought a secondhand 7 plank version of this model in Beatties of Southgate on 12 December 1970, cost 5s 11d, and still have it although it is now heavily weathered with powders.

:sorrysign: msr you are right, I sit corrected  itís just that I have never seen Farish couplings like that before ,and Iíve been using N gauge for a long time longer than I care to remember .I do have lots of stock with the dropped loop couplings and some of the early spring couplings with the straight bar but none like that .
