Can you add a spring to keep a bogie on track?
« on: June 18, 2018, 06:32:32 pm »
I noticed that on the new Ivatt 2-6-0 there seems to be a small brass tab or spring that holds the bogie down on to the track. My Dapol 2-6-2 tank runs very well but can have a tendency to lift the front bogie on tight curves. Just wondering if one can add a simple device to help with this? anyone done this?

I would think it would need to be a very light/soft spring, there's not a lot of weight in the Dapol 2-6-2T locos I have.  Are you sure the bogie has enough loose side-to-side play?

Cheers! I'd sayit's not side to side play but the fact that the bogie is very light and just rests on the rails and doesn't bear any of the loco weight.

There should be a spring under the axle already (between axle and bogie), pushing it down gently, so what you ask for is effectively actually already present in that model.

Cheers,
Alan
