Seen passing Par
« on: May 02, 2018, 09:57:12 pm »
Seen a few times in the last few weeks a rather short GWR HST, only 4 coaches, and on a few occasions one power car was the old Swallow livery, strange.

hi

like scotrail - gwr are going to be running some hst short sets

i suspect you've seen one out for crew training or testing or something

looks a bit strange with 4 coaches, but easier/cheaper to model anyway

not sure tbh have only seen a few hitachi's on videos and understood some had entered service now, i've not been down to western region for a long while to see any real trains though and not read a train magazine since december or so

i like intercity swallow livery - i have a dapol hst set in that livery.  gwr green livery is not bad though too.

They are called Castle class and will be used on local services between Exeter/Plymouth and Penzance and between Cardiff and Taunton replacing ageing dmus.
The sets are being refurbished with new seating and sliding rather than slam doors.
It's you railway so build it as you want and run whatever you like. The only rule is - ENJOY :

GWR repainted one power car in Swallow and one in blue and grey for the 40th anniversary of the HST, both are in normal service on the GWML.

That's a nice photo location!

Where is that, out of curiosity?

They’re not my images, but the blue and grey one is Radley, between Didcot and Oxford. The Swallow one is Whiteball Summit between Bristol and Exeter.

How curious! I can see both, just returned from Google.

In which case, it's Whiteball Summit between Bristol and Exeter. ;)

Sneaky edit for the blue and grey one. Not a fan myself. The Swallow one looks great, particularly once they sorted the vinyls - they didn't line up at all when they first did it - the nose was a mess.

No, hang on, I can see it now. Time delay perhaps.

It's not upside down either!
