Various pictures of the MDS products are in the public domain, and the pre-production versions were freely available to see in Stuttgart last November.

An interview with MDS can be seen on this page:

I emailed Gunnar at MDS this morning asking about availability and delivery expectations.

This was his rapid response:

Quote
many thanks for your email. At the moment we have only the 60001 loco at our stock. The next schipment will be available at around end of April. At this time we have the cars and all versions of locos at our stock.

Best regards

Gunnar

I assume this 'end of April' will apply not only to items ordered direct from MDS, but also though Menzells or Kramm.

As long as they are available sometime I am none too bothered. Many births can be delayed, but the joy at delivery remains undiminished.

Oh well, for End of April read middle of May because it looks like a Chinese shipment and it has to get un-containered and through the Customs etc. That gives me 6 weeks to sell off a lot more redundant stuff on your favourite selling site. :)

A bit disappointing as I thought they were European made or am I believing my own propaganda? ;)

Lets hope you can fit MicroTrains T shank couplers to the things! :hmmm:

At those prices they were never going to be European made!

No surprise to me they would be designed in Germany, made elsewhere. Standard practise for many.

But what makes you say 'Chinese'? Could be, but I see nothing on their website or elsewhere on the www that confirms where they are made.   Mind you, I don't speak German well enough so Gunnar may have mentioned just where in the interview Gordon linked in his post above. :hmmm:

No matter; German, Chinese, Korean, Taiwanese, Japanese or even Martian, I look forward to their arrival. :)

I refer you to the first EW1 set which tended to retail at 68 but probably 80 is more realistic. I have on forward order a Glacier Express Add On set which so far has cost 70 without postage.

Where do Fleischmann make their stuff these days?  :)

Happy Times,

I have no idea what you're talking about. Did MDS produce the EW1s in Europe then?

Fleischmann are are much larger company, with economies of scale that come with it. They're also noted for their European production such is the rarity.

But what makes you say 'Chinese'?

The price and the fact that Gunnar previously was working for BRAWA.

Only MDS can really judge their model of the Ge4/4II as nobody else has one.

Don't worry Mike, it will be available in 30 days !   :laugh3:

steve

30 Days. Beginning from when I wonder?  :dighole: I'll be dead before I they arrive!!

Mike

Those posts don't belong in the Kato thread! :P

If you absolutely have to have it now - this seller has at least one for sale at the moment, and he does show his own pictures, not just factory photos.

Hi Guys,

My head is spinning.

The eBay.de advert states fairly clearly that the models will not be available until the middle to the end of April. We knew that. There is no doubt that it will be a quality model. Looks very good. Lets see if the production batches are as good. I do hope so but there have been disappointments in the UK recently with a more established manufacturer.  For my money the price/quality yardstick is the new N Gauge Class 68 from (Dapol) Shhhh!

Happy Modelling.

Mike Beard.

No, it does not - nowhere in the description is it stated that the models are not in stock now. That this seller must have the models already is clear if you compare the pictures with those of his other items. They are all photographed with the same red background.

What you (maybe?) are seeing is just ebay's estimate when you would receive the packet at your location if you ordered and paid now. If you'd change that location to Germany it shows 12th-13th April as delivery date, not middle to end of April. (I doubt that a packet from Germany to UK would need three weeks, though.) ::)
