wickham Railbus (Etched Pixels) 3D print
« on: December 31, 2017, 11:33:19 am »
Having contemplated building the Wickham railbus for a while now I have finally taken the plunge and got one, the version with interior.
It arrived in quick time and being honest, the print to me is very good, with not many prominent "construction lines"

I first gave it a good scrub in hot soapy water, which removed what was left of the waxy coating, then set about trimming and filing the Kato tram chassis, after I got it to the right width, I found that there was not enough depth to the underfloor to accommodate the chassis, so out came the Dremel and 2 mm was removed from the underfloor, then I had to file the top of the chassis itself to get the body to sit fully home.

A quick dusting with grey plastic primer was then applied to show up more of the "construction lines" so now it's a case of smoothing things down in readiness for the colour coat.

I'm afraid for whatever reason I can't post pictures in this topic as it is saying my pictures need to be MPEG not JPEG which mine are ???????

Keep trying - would be interested to see this model.

MPEG is a video format, so something odd there! @Tank ?

Cheers,

Body primed with grey plastic primer to show construction lines, I have come up with an idea of how to smooth things out, without using any sanding or filing, which if it works I will share, fingers crossed.

I completed one of these last year but without the interior.
Don't seem to find the pictures but I am sure I posted on the forum. The Brass underframe was the tricky bit and I added a few bits to represent some of the bits that hung from the underside.
I still haven't sourced suitable numbers for it but if you need Speed Whiskers PM me as I had to buy a set from Fox and I have left overs.

Just a quick picture update of the cleaned up roof, no sanding or filing involved, it's turned out better than expected, so will continue with the same method for the body.

No chemicals were used or harmed in the process of achieving a clean smooth surface  ;)  :)

Both interior and exterior cleaned up and painted.

Time to start on the chassis, which will be more freelance as I didn't realise one could get the etched framework for the underneath, if anyone can help with that it would be much appreciated.

I used this picture from "tinternet" to get some idea of the chassis.
