N gauge dcc tram
« on: May 13, 2017, 10:19:21 pm »
Are any N gauge trams capable of conversion to or already fitted with dcc?  I keeping looking at the Hobbytrain range, but still not sure if they are and a couple of suppliers have not replied to my enquiry.

If you're referring to the Hobbytrain Duwag M6 then it's been available with DCC and sound, for example:

I have two Bachmann 'N' Gauge Peter Witt Streetcars with Lights (DCC) 84651 Toronto and 84655 Los Angeles Railway which I run as DC on my Kato Unitram layout.

More of these DCC Streetcars can be found at:

The newer versions of the Arnold GT6 tram (if you can find any) have 6 pin DCC sockets fitted, so a 6 pin DCC chip can be plugged in if needed. Be aware the older versions of the same model do not. This model is no longer made but some shops still have one or two

Here's one of the newer ones for sale on ebay in Germany (you can see the DCC blanking plate through the tram windows, at the top of the first window on the left in this picture - the older ones do not have this)

For reference, here's one of the older ones for sale, you should be able to see the difference through the windows

I also have a couple of the Hobbytrain trams, they are available DCC ready but without DCC chip fitted, or with DCC fitted and sound. If you want to add DCC to the first one it's simply a matter of slipping off the tram body (easy) and plugging in a chip. They have directional lights and destination indicators you can switch on and off in DCC too, but if you want sound too (which includes nice things like a 'next stop' announcement in German) you'd be better off buying the DCC + sound fitted version (and biting the bullet on the much higher cost!)

They've also just brought out a 4 bogie version too, only one colour scheme at the moment but I expect them to release more in due course

DCC ready but without sound:

DCC fitted with sound:

p.s. I'm not specifically recommending this retailer, it's just the first one which came up on my search!
