How well does this old kit compare to the RTR Kato and GreenMax tampers?   Looks like some really nice fine detail on the kit.

Different scale I guess for a start, but are they different designs? I know nothing about these units.

I used to wonder about getting one of these kits but then against always thought it wouldn't actually get run much, just sit in a siding.

Seem to have been a few less-than-flattering reviews about the RTR models from what I've read,  dodgy mechanisms and a lack of detail.  Must admit when I've seen the Kato/Hobbytrain one in the flesh it always seems a bit "plastic-y".

its 100 times better in build and detail (well the build is down to how good the modeller can solder the brass and paint) :D

If Dave was selling them again I'd have one as its 1:148 scale not 1:160... but with a kato power unit

It's a really nice kit.
I regret selling mine unmade on ebay a few years ago :(
Best regards
Michael

FYI

Dave has told me that he would consider getting the kit re-done providing there were enough enough people interested in it.

Any takers?

I'd take 3 or 4 or more.

Hi

The later kits were sold with the Kato power unit and that's what mine was supplied with as shown in the picture earlier in this thread.

Cheers

I would enjoy building one if they were re-released.
