farish 4-BEP
« on: January 06, 2017, 11:54:55 am »
Here is a conversion of a Farish 4-CEP to 4-BEP. Using the original shell of the unit (a blue/grey one bought on ebay for a good price) and worsley works BEP buffet sides. The transfers are from the Fox Southern Electric Express sheet (which I helped design)

Wow - two things impress me straight away

1. Someone from Inverness modelling the southern electric - has to be a first!
2. Didn't know WW did 4-BEP replacement sides. Now that is a cracking idea. The buffet needed is nowhere close to either an RU or an RMB.

How did you do the windows? did you shuffle the existing 4-CEP windows around to keep the style of window, or are they entirely on the brass sheet and painted silver?

In my to do list I have a 4-TC and 4-REP combo putting two power cars in the REP unit, to allow the 33/1 to pull the TC unit when required, and using BHE overlays I already have, but they are a trifle short on height (but window spacing spot on).

Great conversion, as I said before.

Bob

brass sides painted, the windows weren't quite right. I am just glazing my 6-s thin hastings unit. I will post a pic when it is done. Check worsley works for his other units. he does them in n gauge as opposed to 2mm and the sides are robust enough to stand up on their own and have pilot holes for hand rails and door handles. I have a 4 cor to post as well but this needs some work on the corridor support structure at the front before it is finished. Have you tried the Fox southern electric transfers?
PS I also have a great deaL of BR (LNER) scottish stock and some woodhead and great eastern as well

I'll echo the 'nice work' comments.

Will look forward to seeing the 4-COR in due course, one of my favourites.

Out of interest, is there a layout on which you run these units?

Ah, sorry, I was thinking more in terms of a layout thread on this forum, or elsewhere?

Thats fine, BR should have done just that.  It looks reasonable and in the overall scheme of things, who will make a fuss? You do what makes you happy. I must be OCD because that would have irritated me knowing it wasn't quite right but that is my problem. :uneasy: Doing what you did is perfectly acceptable, and I bet you were running it before me. I had to respray the whole thing because no one make paint the same colour as farish southern electric green.
