Hello all,

Another important milestone in the Revolution Trains/Rapido Class 92 development schedule has been reached: sound recording.

While the samples are undergoing testing here and at Rapido HQ in Canada, Revolution Trains was very kindly invited to Polmadie depot in Glasgow to record the sounds for the DCC Sound fitted option we are offering.

Alstom and GBRf were kind enough to put 92014 at our disposal and our sound engineer Legomanbiffo and his assistant spent a very enjoyable, if fairly intense, afternoon recording every sound that a 92 is able to make - and there are a surprising number!

For maximum quality and minimal distortion the sounds were recorded both inside and out; most of the time the loco was static but for some it did need to trundle up and down.  Playing with the full size train set was good fun!

Our photographer Tom Smith came along - thanks to him for allowing us to use his images.

The team at Polmadie were very impressed with the sample and we couldn't resist posing it with its full size counterpart!  (Here's a clue - the sample is sitting at the base of the doorway!)

The sounds will now be configured into a single file for "running" and separate files for switchable noises such as air horns, sanding boxes, doors closing etc.

Once the testing is concluded we will be sent a second EP sample for final approval then we will be ready to move to painted sampling and final production.

This may not take too long now, so we would urge anyone interested in acquiring one of these models at the discounted pre-order rate to register and pay a deposit, or the full amount, at our website www.revolutiontrains.com

cheers

Ben A.

Polmadie!  Rough place.

I do hope that you have F25 the Glaswegian driver swearing at the kids at the side of the track throwing stones.

Ha!  Maybe Glasgow isn't what it was, but everyone we saw was incredibly friendly, generous with their time and helpful.

Mind you, I don't think it harmed us having the top man as our host!

Cheers

Hi Guys;

Great news about the sound recording. Polmadie is one of my most favourite places...from my teenage years...right up to the present day!!

How do I upgrade some of my order of fully paid DC models to Dcc Sound. Would this be a viable option or is it better to cancel and reorder...

Later,
Stu from EGDL.

It's just a gimmick, a passing craze like 3D TV.  It'll blow over.

Hi Ben, Mike.

Have you put the sample model on the scales yet to see how heavy it is?

Likewise, have you tested it's haulage capacity yet? How many bogie wagons/coaches can it manage?

Hi Steven,

This sample is designed to check for moulding errors or flaws, and while they did put a motor in it so we could assess the drivetrain it is not the finished article and internally is missing the PCB, speaker, some weights and some other bits.

For this reason while I am happy in terms of smoothness, bogie sideplay etc I am reluctant to draw final conclusions about the upper performance limit.

This "lighweight"version has managed 18 of our heavy TEA tankers on a tabletop oval of Kato UNitrack and could've managed more.

I am hoping that we will get an EP2 by TINGS which should have the internals sorted.

Cheers

Ben A.

Hello Ollie,

Mike is away for a couple of weeks and I am not able to sort order issues.  I am sure he will get around to it when he gets back.

Cheers

Yes, I've also had one invoice for a 3rd payment, but only on one of my orders, and not the oldest chronologically. I have paid the second instalment on each of my 4 orders.

Folks

Don't worry too much about any invoices for 3rd installments I think there has been a glitch with a recent software update (but difficult to check from a small tablet on the other side of the world).

Obviously if you pay the 3rd invoice no harm will come to your order (though I can't vouch for your bank account!).

Apologies for any inconvenience. We will let people know deadlines for paying various installments.

Cheers Mike

At the Rapido Trains bus scan party today they had a Class 92 that Mike and Ben will get to see and photograph properly later this week. Being a bit cheeky I snapped a side view and roof view. It is looking extremely enticing.
