Presumably different makes of chips have different sensitivities to noise and poor signals. Poor connections in the loco are another factor..

So the Zimo may be more tolerant of the noise from your errant locos, and the Digtrax intolerant. THe N class will have different electrics and does not seem to affect either.

If the chips work well in one loco, then they are ok. I suggest you check connections in the errant locos, wheels. CLeaned and wheel wipers  cleaned ( small piece of clean Printer paper between wiper and wheel)

AlSo try the suggestion above to disable DC control.

I have. A number of Dugitrax chips and they are all very reliable.

Humour me and turn off the cv setting on one of the digitrax chips that allows analogue running, then try on your z21... Cv29 = 2

Simons Shed on YouTube gives two very good videos on the White z21.
I followed them and it made the set up easy.

Good luck

It is possible to use the Z21 with your existing router at home instead of using the Roco router.
It's not that difficult, even I did it :D.

The Z21 uses a fixed IP-adres (Factory default is 192.168.0.111).
This adres doesn't fit in the IP-range of most routers.
My router is set with IP adresses from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.199
Only thing you have to do is to figure out the IP range in your router and change the Z21's IP-adres to fit in that range.

To change the IP adres you have to download the Z21 maintenance tool and intall this on a PC (I'm afraid there's still no Mac version :worried:).
http://www.z21.eu/content/download/1634/17992/file/Z21_Maintenance.zip

First connect your pc with a lan cable to the Roco router and run the maintenace tool.
Then connect to the Z21 by using the default IP adres (192.168.0.111) and go to this page.
Here you can see I just changed the 0 in the IP adres and gateway into a 1.

Once you pressed the write button you won't be able to connect again with the PC because now the Roco router can't "see" the Z21 anymore.

Now disconnect the Z21 and pc from the Roco router and connect it with a Lan cable to your home router and now you can use your own WiFi network to operate the Z21 without the original router.
Don't forget to change the IP adres in the Z21 app on your phone/tablet.

André

I am going to use the principle of "the only daft question is the one you don't ask" when I ask the following.. so be gentle!

I have a Digitrax Zephyr command station, is it simply a case of plugging it into the Z21 via the loconet socket and then I have all the functionality of the Z21 as well as the Zephyr?

I can't see anything definitive in the literature I have read on the Z21 so far that answers that questions (admittedly I have not followed any of the links earlier in this thread yet)

Cheers,
Andrew

OK, so I have no real clue here.

BUT wouldn't 2 command stations (Z21 & Digitraxx) potentially conflict with each other?

There are more knowledgeable people on here who will be along in a minute or two.

Regards,

John P
