There is always the fallback of Plastruct tubing which coul be painted to the 'happy' colour of your choice...........

http://www.plastruct.co.uk/roundtubingT2.html

Not as cheap/nickable as straws, though

Unfortunately things like that take on a luxury status by the time they reach here with the attendant price hike.
I "borrow" things with a promise to return them when I've finished with them but not necessarily in the condition I borrowed them :-[

I started painting the sides of the rails today. What a mind numbing occupation that is. On par with ballasting.

Here are two photos. of North Cornwall regular, D6577, passing through Cant Cove on a scheduled goods service to Exeter, via Halwill, the first part of which will have more vehicles added to before it sets off, again, to Templecombe then Withy Junction.

For those of a nervous disposition don't look too  closely at the next photo. I think I need a little tidy up. :-\

Making some homemade scatter. It's soil from a building site where lorries have passed over it several times. It's now as fine as talcum powder. I sieved out the stones which can be used elsewhere, I'm thinking of a quarry dump. My assistant doesn't reckon much to all this and has decided to have a siesta.

Isn't that room what train rooms are supposed to look like?  ???

My train set room certainly thinks so.  Every time I tidy up a benign manifestation of chaos theory re-asserts itself.

The Table-Top Railway is a train set trying and failing to be a model railway.

I believe that train sets and model railways are fun.

Every time I tidy up

Excuse my ignorance, but what is "tidy up"?  ;)

Don't forget to sterilise the soil otherwise it is quite possible nasty things may start growing in the course of time.   :worried:

5 minutes under the toaster, gently stirred not shaken! If anything grows around the lamp posts my assistant will have a lot to answer for.

The scatter looks very good, Brian. I 'bake' anything brought in from outside on a foil tray in a hot oven, taking care not to burn anything and throw away the tray afterwards.

The soil is so sterile here nothing ever grows. In damper climates yes I always sterilized earth.
