Resistance is futile!   8)

Mine ran well straight from the box with good low speed control. Possibly a little growly but no more so than normal for a Dapol loco.

It doesn't seem entirely happy with 1st radius curves though. It has a tendency to derail on 9" set track. I have noticed this before on Dapol steamers (the Brit seems to be the worst offender). Curiously my 2884 is fine on 9" curves despite having a longer coupled wheelbase.

I need to have a check of the cardan shaft. Sometimes this has a little bit of flash of at one end which holds the loco and tender further apart than they should be. Gentle filing to ensue the end it smooth can sometimes encourage it to go round 1st radius curves happily. I will investigate over the weekend (once I find my needle-nosed pliers).

On the plus side, I have fitted red route disc indicators courtesy of Fox Transfers and they sit over the existing discs beautifully. Photos to follow shortly.
Well, that's just not good enough. Some fount of all knowledge you are!   ;)

Thanks Karhedron.  It would be good to hear whether you sort the 9" curve issue as HOLLERTON JUNCTION has these including points.

Many thanks

Fox route indicator discs are a perfect replacement for the Dapol ones and help my OCD no end. ;) The sheet you need is FRH2105. Here is Burghclere Grange now sporting correct red route indicator discs picking up the milk from the Chew Magna  creamery.

Chew Magna...just a few miles from where I grew up, and near to the curiously named Nempnet Thrubwell. The land of Zummerset cider.

Chew Magna never had a station in real life but a branch was planned up the Chew valley from Pensford on the B&NSR. It was scotched by WW1 but it gave me the inspiration for a "what if".

Rails of Sheffield are now showing stocks of 2 more Greanges, with the smaller style tender. The tender doesn't look to sit as high as it it does on the 28XX so  maybe an improved version also?

Cheers,
Alan

The tender on Stowe Grange appears to be the same as the tenders supplied on the Manors (both batches) and the 28xx and on the ones I have all the same height.  It has spoked wheels as the 28xx and second batch of Manors.  What was a surprise to me was to see it comes with tyres on the rear drivers, and the gears are covered.  It almost looks like the Hall Chassis has been re-wheeled.
Visually (apart from the route availability) I feel it is the best GWR tender engine produced to date, mine is running in fine.

It may be because they've painted the rims black on the Grange that takes them down a mite as compared the 28xx etc. Looking at Rails' raer 3/4 view picture more closely, the tender doesn't look any lower than the 28xx.

Cheers,
Alan
