Dapol Grange...maybe sometime soon.
« on: May 05, 2014, 10:17:10 am »
I see that Hattons are showing a pre-order price of 100 non DCC, and 119 for the DCC version. Given Bachmanns announcement re' on-going price increases, and if Dapol should follow suit, it does looks inviting.

I already have a pair pf Manors and Halls but as my layout is set in the west-country, I am sure I can justfy squeezing a Grange onto my roster.
Well, that's just not good enough. Some fount of all knowledge you are!   ;)

A Grange is a must for my Cornwall layout.
However, I had my 14XX and autocoach pre-ordered for 2 years so how long we have to wait for the Grange is anyone's guess!
If it looks right then it most probably is right.

I'd really like a "Grange" too, Martin, as they performed very well in Cornwall: however, the price and the fact that one would have been too heavy for the North Cornwall line means that I will have to be content with my "Manor" (even those I think would have been too heavy; only 43XXs and 32XXs being light enough and that was after the WW2 upgrading of the GWR part of the line from Bodmin) and, when I want to invoke Rule One, my old Graham Farish "Castle" and "Hall"! Or I could assume that as a SR line with GWR running powers the railway companies upgraded the line in the 1930s with cheap government loans for the growing holiday traffic so that the line could take any loco. that could run to Newquay? The SR via the S&DJR would bring trains from the LMSR and the GWR via Banbury trains from the LNER?

It will suit Port Perran just fine though Chris.  But maybe not the LSWR extension !
I too have a Manor which fits the bill well at the moment.  In fact I often run it tender first with 2 or 3 carriages from a through train to Penzance which were shed at Truro for onward passage to Port Perran.
If it looks right then it most probably is right.

The EP for the Grange was on display at the Dapol stand at TINGS. Did anyone manage to get a decent close-up shot of it?

I took a photo of the driver's side, which shows it fitted with a mechanical speedometer bracket, which despite a search through several books, I have been unable to find a Grange so fitted - I said this to someone on the sales stand and he said that he would pass this on, but I sent an email to Dapol as well, but I have yet to receive an answer

I also took a photo of the EP1s of the Hawksworth coaches, which had me drooling

Regards,

Alex

Thanks for those photos. I'd like a BR Grange, some BR Hawksworth coaches and, of course, a BR Bulleid Pacific; so, I need to start saving!

I see what you mean about the speedo bracket, obvious once it has been pointed out.

Hopefully they will take note and remove it. If not, well, at least it should be easy enough to remove with a craft knife without damaging the model.

Me too !
Is there a release date yet for any of this stuff ?
And yes I do know that if there is a date it's probably pie in the sky stuff !

The Grange was originally scheduled for mid 2014 so given that we have only just seen the EP, I think it is safe to say that things have slipped a bit. From EP to models for sale can take anywhere from 6-12 months so I think we will be looking at spring or summer 2015.

That's just about what the guy on the stand said, and the Hawksworths will be 9 - 18 months ,at least my wallet will have time to recover.

Alex

If all of these are not likely to appear until mid or late next year that gives me plenty of time to save up! 8-)

If you need/want to email dapol it helps to know who you are trying to contact.

Joel@  (plus rest of Dapol's email) gets you Joel Bright

For technical or development issues try Andy@

Hope this a) still applies and b) helps.....

All the very best
Les

Hi

According to this page: http://dapol.co.uk/index.php?route=product/category&path=179_298_300_492 the current estimate is January 2015. This page was showing November 2014 until fairly recently, so this is probably a fairly up-to-date estimate.
