NGF Code of Conduct - Last Updated 20/10/14

The N Gauge Forum hopes to: Promote N Gauge modelling in all of its forms.  To discover, progress and develop skills in all areas of the hobby.

As requirements of your continuing membership, you will be required to:-

a)  Behave with decorum.  Please act towards others as you would wish to be treated.
b)  Post as regularly as possible; sharing member's projects and encouraging and helping other members, by answering queries and/or offering advice.  We are here to support each other and not be competitive!
c)  Respect the copyright of all material submitted.
d)  Do not patronise members, or form cliques.  This could be seen as bullying, and sadly happens a lot on forums.
e)  Refrain from using foul, abusive, racist or insulting language. Remember that youngsters read this forum.
f)  Do not deliberately make contentious or argumentative posts. The forum is not Speakers Corner and the forum rules apply to maintain a convivial atmosphere. Flagrant breach will result in suspension from the forum and possibly a ban.
g)  Items for sale are subject to the governing rules of the forum i.e. must be accompanied by a full description (including any faults) and photographs of the item(s) If you have items for sale please bear your fellow members in mind and advertise here before using media such as eBay. Please also keep both parties fully up to date with transactions via PM.  eBay links are to go into the eBay Board, which will appear to members when they have 10 posts or more.
h) Automatic Account Deletion if:-  You're a new member and you do not log in within a 90 day period and have ZERO posts; your account has not been activated after 30 days; you spam the forum; you advertise without seeking permission; you break the rules of the Code of Conduct; you argue with NGF members or staff.
i)  Political or Religious comment are banned.
j)  We do not allow businesses to sell or advertise their goods on the forum without permission from the Admins - unless they are already paying to advertise on the forum.  Members who regularly post their business website in their signature, in posts, or goods in the For Sale section will be dealt with.  Removal of adverts or advertisements in signatures will be instant with no warning.
k)  Members are not allowed to post items 'for sale' or 'wanted' items on the open forum.  These are to be placed on the NGF Classifieds only.  To encourage new members to contribute to the forum, the N'porium will only become visible to forum members who achieve 10 or more posts.
l)  Using the N'porium for profiteering is deemed to be against the ethos of the forum.  By this we mean that some members will sell items cheaply to fellow members so they can enjoy the hobby.  Therefore, if a buyer then sells the item on at a profit it is seen as profiteering and against what we stand for.  Also, someone selling a lot of items should contribute to the forum to support it, rather than take advantage of the free listing feature.
m)  It has come to my attention that a small minority of our members are creating multiple accounts with the aim of circumventing the forum rules. Any member found with more than one account will have their membership suspended pending an investigation. If any member has more than one account and would like to delete these additional accounts then please contact Tank.

Bullying or Grievances
Bullying will not be tolerated in any way, shape or form and if claims of bullying are founded members will be immediately dismissed.  If you feel you have a grievance or are a victim of bullying, please do not air it publicly in the first instance but PM one of the Moderators or click on the Report Post button and you can be assured it will be looked at. Do not be drawn into a slanging match in open forum.  If you have a problem with a Moderator then please contact Tank via PM.  I will not be biased towards a moderator, and everyone is treated equally.

The Moderation team is here to help you get the best from the forum but we do need your feedback, and if you experience any of the issues mentioned in the Code of Conduct, let us know by either by PM or Report Post.  It is your forum, help us to continually improve it by keeping in touch with the Mod Team.

It may from time to time be necessary to withdraw membership from an individual.  In most cases you may be given warning, but in extreme cases you will be banned.  A member (or members) will be removed after discussion between the NGF Staff and is subject to majority vote.

CHECK YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS!  False email addresses are not permitted and may result in your account being closed.  You will be sent a Private Message if your email address bounces, and if it's not changed you will not be allowed back.

This will be updated from time to time, so if you feel you're a trouble maker, then come back soon!  ;D

Thank you for reading our Code of Conduct. If you have any specific comments regarding the Code please use the 'Report to Moderator' link in the bottom right corner of this post to address your concerns to the Team.

Also please feel free to start your own thread to say "Hello" in our Welcome and Introduction (http://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?board=40.0) section, we like to know a bit about you and your modelling, and you're assured of a warm welcome ;)

Hi Guys,
I've been reading the forum for years. Always interesting.
Finally I'm retired and hoping to re-start a hobby that I first became involved in back in the 80's.
I received an automated e mail today inviting me to 're-join' the forum.
Today I even read the forum rules. They seem to make good sense.

Regards

Brian

:hellosign:Thanks for the add. Started in   :ngauge: about a year ago, got a bit of loft space that I can use, but can't quite make up my mind on a layout. I spend hours on any rail developing ideas only to find most will not work. However, seem to be making progress now, and am fairly sure I know what I want to achieve, and have most of the track I need. While trying to develop ideas I have also been buying (aimlessly, so might have some swaps later) track from ebay. Definate decisions made are I will be using DCC, and I want to do a lot of scratch building. Looking forward to meeting (albeit virtually) lots of people with ideas that I can use and possibly pass on some things I have learnt.

I look forward to seeing your track plan (details of how to post can be found in the 'Help and FAQ' section).
You already have me slightly concerned regarding your track purchased from eBay - what make(s) have you purchased please?

Hi Newportnobby,
I have bought mainly Peco set track, but some Peco streamline (flexi and points) and a few lima(I think) points and recently I have bought 10 flexi track from gaugemaster. I will try to upload my prefered track plan in the next day or two.

Hi
No era as yet, but as a Welshman from the valleys, I think coal might come into it.So could be any time 50's 60's 70's I suppose, I do have a couple of DMU's and a class 37 so far, but have not spent a great deal on locos as yet, waiting to see how things develop.

Hello every one I've read the blurb and will comply.
I model N American steam era but can be distracted by interesting foreign loco's and rolling stock. I have a layout which is stalled as I'm not happy with it and don't seem able to decide on the best way to proceed. In the mean time I try to improve  stock I've bought on e bay and repair loco's for friends. I have some kits that need finishing mostly paint and decals.
I'm not to hot on computers so don't expect pictures to soon and as for putting links up that's not something I know how to do :dunce (see I don't even know how to get a smiley up)
James.

Hi James, and welcome to the forum
Don't fret about the compooter side of things but if you let us know what space you have available and what you're seeking to get from your railway I'm sure folks would be happy to offer their thoughts/track plans. For that, it would help if you can tell us what make of track you are using.

I've been an N-man for nigh on 20 years. Small layout on two levels, 5 x 3. Love to find a Castle or a King!
Got to go....tea time. That gives away my northerly origins.

Cheers,

We should be seeing a 'Castle' from Farish next year (maybe mid year) but no sign of a 'King' unless DJ Models shrink theirs.

Haha, well I did wonder actually, that's why i had a look!

I've come across 2 people with very strong opinions in the 48 hours (one on here and one on the FB group) (I'm not naming names or grassing by any means!) and felt a little bit like because I have a different opinion I'm somehow a trouble maker. in fact the word chosen to describe me by one of these individual made me wonder if having an opinion or perception makes you a trouble maker by default. However in the other instance I had a member from here, off his own back, contact me via a facebook PM and tell me not to worry about a certain individual with a strong opinion, that was very nice. It made me realise that there are people on here who re warm and friendly and know everyone has their opinions and try to see both sides in any debate.

We are very aware of trouble makers and if necessary they are put under moderator watch and if necessary they are put under moderation where all their posts have to be pre-approved.  In very serious cases, a person can be banned from the forum but that is undertaken as a last resort.

If at any time you feel threatened by anyone´s post on here then hit the "report to moderator" button that is available in every post.  No one will know you´ve done it, only us moderators and additionaly it helps us keep track of and watch out for of any possible trouble makers or bullying.

Alternatively, you can always PM any of the moderators or to Tank directly if you´d rather do it that way, but above all, never feel threatened on here and make sure you enjoy the forum.   :)

We do like to know what your plans are and what era you model because we are a nosey lot,but also you will find some really helpfull members in all the aspects of this wonderfull hobby.
There are various informal meet ups held around the country so keep popping in regularly and we have a big meetup at THE INTERNATIONAL N GAUGE SHOW AT THE WARWICK CONFERENCE CENTER  (in actual fact it was a farm ) where we have about 30 members each day.
If you are new to the hobby don't be afraid to ask any questions and you will find someone on here will know the answer .
The most important thing is enjoy and have fun thats the point of a hobby like ours ,just escape into a world of your own making where your the boss.

Hi

This is a first for me, new to forums, "vlogging" etc. A bit of a Luddite but trying to move with the times :-[. I have been building railways for a long time. I started with my dad as a child in 00 gauge (not sure if i can say that here) then built one with my own children before finally doing the one railway thing i had always wanted to, and make my own N gauge layout.

It sits in the shed at the bottom of the garden and is about 12ft by 8ft, my boys and i are still building it, although it is mostly me now as they have more interest in their various tablets and computers.

It is my little bit of calm in the maelstrom that is modern life. I have also started a video blog on youtube called Mr Flowers Model railway. Check it out and let me know what you think :ngauge: :thankyousign:
