Title: Fitting Dapol Easi-shunt couplers to a Farish class 60
Post by: Kelvin White on January 29, 2018, 08:33:23 pm
I've just received a Farish class 60 - looks good - runs good.

But it doesn't have NEM pockets.

How do you fix Dapol Easi-shunt magnetic couplers?

Photos and descriptions would be useful, as I havn't done this before.

Thanks

Hi Kelvin,

All of my 60s do have NEM pockets; in fact I didn't realise they ever made them without.  This isn't just a boast (!) - it makes me thinks that one potential solution would be to get replacement bogie mouldings that do have NEM pockets, which would be a perfect answer and save you having to hack around too much, although it might cost a bit.

Cheers

Jon  :)

Hi Jon

I contacted BR Lines

Bob Russell replied

Class 60 has NEM peg mounting.  There are no pocket types on this class.

Class 60 side frames are all the same construction as you have, and at present the sideframes are not available separately.

Photo attached - how did you fit Dapol Easi-shunts - can you send me a photo - thanks

Hi Kelvin,

I will send you photos....but in the meantime if you just hold onto the end of the Rapido coupler and firmly (but gently) pull away from the loco, it will just pop out of the box, and it should become clear; the end of the Rapido coupler will look the end of the East-shunt, all you have to do is push the Easy-Shunt into the hole where the Rapido came from.

The direction you need to pull is horizontal; imagine if the loco was on the track and pulling a train, and the train got jammed and the loco kept going; that is the direction you need to pull it out.

Cheers Jon :)

Sorry for typo - should of course say "Put your thumb on...."

Once you have removed the Rapido, the fitment of the Easy-Shunt should be obvious

Cheers Jon  :)
