Title: Branor Systems N Scale Cam Truck - Recommended!
Post by: oreamnos on August 09, 2011, 05:28:58 pm
I just received a Cam Truck from Bruce Piggott at Branor Systems (http://www.branor.co.uk/).  This is the same wagon mounted video camera reviewed in a recent issue of the NGS Journal.

The cameras cost about 70 and I chose to supply my own VBA van for the conversion because Farish isn't currently producing VBA van's in BR bauxite livery, which I wanted mine to have.  The Cam Trucks are hand built by Bruce to a very high standard and they are very easy to operate.  Video quality is surprisingly good for such a small camera.

I was impressed with Bruce's good communications as I live in California and had to make all arrangements with him via email.

I hope if any of you have been "on the fence" about purchasing one of these cameras that this little review convices you to buy one.  It is really a nifty little piece of equipment.

Finally, the usual disclaimer - I have no relationship with Bruce or Branor Systems other than as a very satisfied customer.

Have you seen the Tomix camera train? http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10040331
Much smaller, but 200 more.

Thanks.  No, I had not seen the Tomix camera and just as well I hadn't, as at that price I might have thought there were no cheaper alternatives and lost hope of finding a quality setup I could afford!

That camera truck at Branor Systems looks like he has taken a pen cam to pieces and re-routed the on/ off switches and turned the lens through 90 degrees.

I have a friend that fits pin hole cameras from an electronics shop to his locos, almost invisible to the eye but the reception he gets on his TV is amazing.

They must be wireless cameras, I have a few of those lying about and must admit I never thought of using one of those.  Thanks for bringing that idea to my attention  ;)

Bruce is a member of my local N Gauge group and he's a thoroughly decent bloke

I think what he has done with these camera-trucks is fantastic, he only made it as a personal effort for his own use and now he's got numerous orders for them that are taking up much of his time!! If you don't want to buy your own he'll even rent you one for a month for 25 quid.

Might look into getting one when the layout is a bit more scenicly complete.

Loved the video, could mistaken it for the real thing.  Cleverly done.

Just had one of these CamTrucks turn up from Bruce this morning - excellent service

Funnily enough it was stumbling across the 'Take the N  train' video that put the idea into my head 8)
