DELETED

So talktalk changed their webmail program back January 2016, they tried rolling it out years ago and it didn't work then and after 4 months of the new package "smashed out" relying on customers reporting the bugs guess what ....it still doesn't work. I don't have much hair left as I get the same problems on different computers, web browsers, operating systems, ISP's and the new look doesn't work on my smartphone now either.  I've punched too many holes in the walls now and despite talktalk brushing it off as a free service I can't go on with it any longer now as accessible E-Mail is 50% of what I expect from an ISP.  They were supposed to call me back today with an update, they didn't.  I see they've changed their technical help options now so you go through so many press buttons options without any way to speak to anyone other than the "I'm leaving team".  When they didn't call me back as promised tonight  :censored:, I reluctantly called them and they're shut  :veryangry:

Years ago I ran outlook express on my laptop and it worked'ish but sent messages didn't sync with talktalk webmail and I was tied to one PC.  Same I had with my smartphone at the time -something to do with a known issue talktalk not accepting a POP server or summit but I forget now.  I've been trying internet searches past few weeks for alternative E-Mail packages I can log-in to from more than one computer but save for google or microsoft or hotmail I can't find anything which preserves my talktalk mail address as I can't afford to loose it and I have no gripes with their other packages.  I've been through the talktalk forums, couldn't log-in last time, password reset did nothing and I couldn't check E-Mail to get a re-set (not that any came through), can't get access without E-Mails etc etc etc.

There must be a way to access E-Mails another way using my own address?  Or isn't there?

A big gripe with the new talktalk email is it will not open new messages in a new window, so I loose my inbox each time and can't work off 2 messages side by side (and when I close a message, the inbox window dissapears).  I can't understand how I can work without this ability so if I change then the ability to maintain my inbox window is a must.

It's got to be unusual for someone selling communications packages in 2016 that the only effective, recorded communication is to send letters.  RM send my letters to them next day -talktalk don't acknowledge, or just send an E-mail back, which I can't get for weeks because I'm writing to them saying my E-mail don't work!!!!  Can't phone them (if you can get through) because it's a new person each time and you start from fresh when you overcome the language barrier and your case doesn't fit the standard list of errors they have.

....Any pointers how I can get E-Mail back apart from change ISP appreciated.

Do they offer an option to automatically forward all incoming mail to another address? If so, you only need to get in to the system once more so that you can activate that option.
You have my sympathy, for what it's worth, I went through a similar problem some time ago with a fly-by-night email provider who 'vanished' leaving a lot of people stuck with no access to messages and no email address. A different path but a similar result to what you are suffering I think.

As an aside, I tend to change my net provider each time the contract runs out as there always seems to be a better deal available. For that reason I never use the providers built in email offering.

Best of luck with it, Allan.....

I use Mozilla Thunderbird.

Stable, works with Talktalk and you can do everything and more that Outlook would offer.

For years I used windows live mail and had no complaints until they deliberately neutered it in their desperation to promote the appalling windows 10 , I now use Thunderbird and have returned to having no complaints at all .

Dunno what the fuss is about. I've used yahoo mail for 10 years, and apart from the irritating adverts, no probs.

Thunderbird for me too, but with Virgin media (ntlworld) as ISP, OK I have to pay for it but I get free phone calls in the package and broadband speed of 100M due to be upgraded to 150M by October.

I started with AOL dial up, who later leased cable connection from NTL, a few years later those on the cable connections were transferred to NTL as part of Virgin.

Oh yeah!  I got a request for help, (stuck in the airport in Japan - please send/lend money quickly) from sister-in-law.  She also sent me an order form for Viagra from the company she had started to work for just that same day, in Canada. All very well, except that she is a semi-disabled lady who seldom leaves her home - in Scotland. Also, a work colleague emailed me to let me know that he had converted to the Muslim faith  -  one problem, he hadn't!  Yeah, both were Yahoo mail users. The messages above had gone to everyone on their contact lists.

Do you still have the url for the Viagra, Allan? :D

Actually Caz, you have reminded me - I did indeed have a big problem some time ago, as Malc and anyone else who has my email details will confirm  (I can't remember if you do or not, Caz, I think you do). My account was hacked and folk were getting stuff from me when it wasn't me at all.

So, yes, please ignore my previous post. I have had problems with Yahoo.

Sorry for late reply folks.....

QuoteIf you want to have two mails open side by side , then just open a second browser session. You can have Talk Talk web mail open at the same time in two different sessions. I've just tried it with Microsoft Edge and it works fine.

...Tried it a few times, second session doesn't usually open up but sometimes does.  Plus when it does open up OK when there's an error sending (i.e. a crash, which happens way too often) both windows then crash and you can't get back to the inbox because the opened message overwrites them.  It's so amazingly frustrating.

THANK YOU for recommending Thunderbird!  This was the package I was looking for but for the life of me couldn't remember the name and didn't find it on-line before.  I'm a Mozilla user so will look into that.

There's also www.mail2web.com which I used before.  I know about the mail forwarding, there's also a new option for "out of office".  I've taken to cc'ing my works address which I don't like using for personal.  I wouldn't use the out of office for security reasons fpr all the spam which slips through.

...Just such a shame you have to deal with a communications company by letter as your own E-Mail doesn't work, nor does the company contact E-Mail address work.  No response to letters then after weeks when you eventually get in to the account they've E-mailed you a response back.  The home phone rang on Sunday -no answer with me saying hello, hello hello, anybody there?!!  2 mins later mobile went, hello, hello is there anybody there, can you hear me,, hello!?  2 mins later I get a text message saying talktalk can't get in contact despite numerous attempts and my case will be closed unless they hear back so I was left to chase them again.  So calling them back -nobody knows anything about the troubles (the UK guy I spoke to in the leaving team did but was unable to help, the foriegn dept I got passed onto again knew nothing about my case or the problems again).

I did get a call back on my mobile 2 days ago.  Was trying to get away from work but we started from scratch again.  After an hour I gave up -I needed to get home at half seven when my finishing time is 5.  I give-up on talktalk webmail totally now.  The whole Talktalk process is a complete farce, there seems to be a major language barrier if you speask to anyone except the leaving team.

I can't afford to loose my address at the moment so I have to get-in reliably by another means.  It's burned enough ours of my life so far so draw a line.  Once again thanks for suggesting Thunderbird, I couldn't find it for love nor money!

Sorry for my bleeting but:

I had to get into my E-Mails for access to a conference this week (needed  a barcode for an entry badge).  Tried talktalk webmail for an hour on the way there before I gave up.

www.mail2web.com

...loaded in about 10seconds, grabbed the E-Mail I needed in about 1 min afterwards.  Job done!!!!!

I post this for anyone else who visits this in any part of the future and struggles with access to the same ISP.  Lessons learned.

Not a clue what you guys are talking about but the mention of ads made wonder. Basics remember, I'm fed up with talktalk , I feel they are getting very obtrusive with there questioning everything, plus the screen is awash with ads and crud. Any thoughts on an ISP suitable for a steam driven 69 year old. john.

Ditape

I am with Virgin media and thier online email page is good and their email also works well with outlook.
