In the past few days when viewing members posts , occasionally one of the words in the
posting appears in red and underlined. When I click on the word it displays rather like
a business card with the phrase " friends checker information getter". The postings
are unconnected and the words in red seem to be at random. Has also appeared in
narrative to online BBC  news reports etc . ???

Sounds like you've added a browser extension (or caught something nasty)

Have not come across it. I assume you have some sort of anti-virus software, if so a scan should find and highlight it so you can send it to the isolation bin.
Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.

Happened to me, a bug in some download. You should find it in your browser extensions or add-ons and delete it. Pretty harmless, more of a nuisance.

Thanks for all info, my anti virus software hasn't picked it up,
but I'll run a full scan , hopefully just a minor nuisance , but not
as annoying as popups.

Regards to members, the place to come when you have
a problem , presumably excludes credit card bills !

If that doesn't find anything, I'd run SpyBot.

I have used Spybot sucessfully, when all others have failed.
The years have been good to me, it was the weekends that did the damage.

I had something similar once, turned out to be Skype! I had unwittingly allowed the Skype software to interpret certain figures as telephone numbers! Annoying!

check in control panel > remove programs and see if you have a program on there called 'arcadesafari'.

I had the same thing with words appearing in red and underlined, plus loads of 'messages' which seemed to lead to either competitions to win I-phones, or fill in surveys.

removed 'arcadesafari' which appeared in the links and this semms to have solved the problem.

not sure where / how this appeared.

hope this helps.
