Peco N gauge code 80 medium radius points
« on: May 02, 2012, 05:40:01 pm »
I have been buying Peco N gauge code 80 points on eBay.  I note that there appears to be two types - those where the blades are connected to the rails using what look like metal rail joiners and those where there appears to be a proper swivel joint.

Those with the rail joiners do not look very robust.

Can anyone tell me what the current design is?

Thank you

Hi
May I add my question to this topic?
I have used some Peco points that were purchased long ago and have the moving blades pivoted from rail joiners.
I have just found a second one that is not making contact at this point - confirming your fears.
Does anybody have a fix for this problem, apart from cutting out and replacing the whole point?

Ok, my vintage layout has a million billion Code 80 points of various sizes (give a take a few)  ;)

They are all of the  rail joiner variety, and are quite honestly, a pain.

Yes, they do fall apart. In fact I'm having that problem with my layout restoration.

Hi
Does anybody have a fix for [bad connection at blade pivot], apart from cutting out and replacing the whole point?

Solder a fine wire bridge across the pivot point gap.  The blades don't actually pivot that much.

That's an excellent idea, even though it sounds a bit fiddly. However, it sure beats tearing the point out of the ballast and replacing it!

I'll give it a go!
