Hello, Hope I'm posting inthe right place as I am never sure!  I am looking to replicate the log trains that travel down the west coast mainline but have had no luck finding suitable wagons. Is this something that has been produced?  Kit or ready to run? Or maybe even not at all. I have the comas 60 just the wagons needed.

Thank you in anticipation.

James.

The N Gauge Society produce a kit for thw wagons.
You have to be a member to buy them and I don't know if they are in stock.
I have 10 kits that I have yet to finish

its the Carlisle chirk train running with the headcode of 6J37, the afternoon timber train that runs from Carlisle to Chirk is one of the best known freight flows in the UK today.

Operated by Colas Rail and initially hauled by Virgin Trains' Class 57/3s and then DRS Class 57/0s, the train was routed via the West Coast Main Line. Today, it is worked by Colas-owned Class 66/8s and runs via the Settle and Carlisle line.

route :
via S&C, Hellifield to Blackburn, and Farington South curve onto the WCML to Warrington. Then onto Frodsham, it goes through Chester, Wrexham and on to Chirk, NOW runs Carlisle - warrington

as for the wagons

The wagons are either KSA - cut down Rover Cube wagons, or KFA, cut down cargowaggons (not easy to do from a Heljan cargowaggon van as the ends are distinctly different). The ex-cubes are longer than the KFA and have the large "box" underframe

OTAs (4 wheel) and IGA (bogie) wagons could be used  however olog workings (Colas hauled)  use bogie wagons with solid ends. These appear to be KSAs the N Gauge Society has a kit version but fear the metal etchings and tiny parts may be beyond my modelling ability.

Current types in use are (links to pics attached):

KFA - these are converted from cargowaggon vans

KSA - conversions from former Rover "cube" wagons as per the NGS kit - looking at them on the NGS stand, even if you didn't feel able to do the etched brass bits then the plastic parts of the kit get you 90% there (look at the pic on their site in the grey undercoat, that doesn't have the etched bits on) - and these are unique wagons that you're unlikely to get a model of any other way!

IWA - based on cargowaggon "holdall vans" - note they have had modifications since these pics were taken, additional stantions etc.

The KSA is the only one with a specific model available

maybe a gap in the market
