After eight months of depression-induced inactivity due to a forced house-move in September I have today FINALLY got half the layout up and ready to work on again! ::)

Apart from a tiny bit of grass and bushes working loose it stood up to the move quite well, so should be OK with being shifted to/from exhibitions when the time comes. Once I achieve something on itagain I'll have to go and dig my layout thread up from the depths of Layout Construction :worried:

Been modifying the track again so I can have trains on either the Inner branch line or Outer Mainline on a longer double loop sharing a common middle line. In other words a complete circuit involves 2 loops of board, not one.
The right bottom corner of my layout is where I am making changes as shown on the diagram, but I will have to order a couple of new points and another crossover.
If only there was a local shop I could just pop down to for them, instead of having to go online and wait at least 10 days for delivery.
On the subject of fine track ballast, I laid some the other day on part of my layout and some of it got sucked up when I ran 2 or 3 engines over it, and despite attempting to clean the fine "grit" out it has wrecked some of favourite locomotives!.

A lesson for us all there, Terry :(
Lots of glue and the strongest vacuum cleaning afterwards :hmmm:

Ran some trains for the first time in ages. Kato Eurostar, Kato Thalys, Farish Desiro and Dapol Super V Voyager. Three ran beautifully, one derailled through issues with the coupling - guess which
Just one Pendolino, give it to me, a beautiful train, from Italy

my guess is "no bon voyage then?

I have a problem with things like Glue, Engine Oil, and other Liquids wanted for my railway as they are "banned" items for transporting by Air (so Hattons tell me) and
don't know if the local oil I can buy is good for my engines or not, and it is a similar story with glues.
Having wrecked a few locomotives due to ballast problems, would be nice if I could get replacement chassis for them. Never got a reply from Pete's Models (who specialise in selling chassis) - do you know somebody else I might try?
By the way have you tried the camcorder software disk yet?

You want a light machine oil such as would be used for small sewing machines.

Not on my layout as such but I've been looking at working timetables for the area where my layout is set.  Using this information I'm developing an operating sequence.

It looks like the main weekday passenger movements can be covered by five trains; an auto-coach, Bubble Car, 2/3car DMU, B-set and 3-coach set.  There is also a single daily parcels train.  Goods traffic might be a bit more complicated, I was surprised at the variety of goods traffic, about 12 trains on a typical weekday; I don't think I've got enough storage sidings to keep them all on the layout at once.

Maybe the Sunday WTT is easier if I want a prototypical running session...

Still, it has been very interesting looking at the trains that actually ran.  What I don't have, as yet, is any firm indication that my train formations are accurate.  But looking at period photos suggests they're not a million miles of, and that'll do for now.

Razed to the ground my engineering factory ready to be replaced by a similar model made of plastikard rather than card.
Was never happy with the old one (it was the first scratch built model I ever made).
Not too keen on cutting out window openings though !
As I need to work in the window (we have a very wide sill that acts as a workbench) in daylight, play modelling has been suspended for the evening as it's now too dark for my old eyes to see properly !

Took the opportunity to run in my new Q1. Why is it that it will run around at least 70 times no problem then derail (just when I pop downstairs to answer the phone)?
I'll get round to fixing it drekkly me 'ansome.

About to go home from work and pull up the woodland scenic incline i laid while at 2% grade it is uphill all the way as the original setup required it to climb the 6 inch height ove the 24feet. But know that it has been reduce to about 3inches over the same length im redoing it so the incline is only on the straight sections and not on the curve. The main benefit the 5mt wont slip as it goies over the last curve with a good rake of coaches. Third time attempt hopefully will be the last.
Just have to find a stockist here that has it!
