So it begins!
« on: June 05, 2012, 07:29:13 pm »
Hi all, Just thought i would post the first couple of pictures of the layout that i am creating, ie someone let me loose with the power tools :)

Below the pictures show how i finally sorted the bracing, might be slightly unconventional for some, but it seamed to work for me. All i have to do is template them onto my Anyrail plan (comming soon). I did make the odd mistake, like mounting the plywood on the wrong side of the frame work, so i tool the easy option and undid the braces and turned it around.

Also is a pic of it in what will be the final location, i just have to work out how i want to raise it off the ground, either mount to the wall, or crate legs so i can move it out of the bedroom if need be. It will be bolted together so that the 5x2 and little corner piece can be removed.

Peoples comments and critisim as always welcome, how else are we ment to learn :p

Enjoy.  Neil

Good looking baseboard Neil, you should get a nice sized layout on there. Excellent start

Good start Neil.

Nice baseboards, nothing wrong with the base board bracing either. If you find the boards are a bit springy when you come to lay your track, you can always add some more later.

As for legs, have you thought about some cheap chest of drawers to rest your boards on? That way you'll have storage for your layout bits & pieces and SWIMBO will be happy because she may gain some extra storage for the bedroom too.

Today's Experts were yesterday's Beginners :)

Good looking boards Neil. I would suggest a coat of varnish to protect against water getting into them when you come to ballasting and landscaping.

Looks great, Neil.
The only thing I would add is a bracing strut between the back legs to firm things up and prevent any wobble

Hi all, just a quicl update,

Been playing around with anyrail, and after many false starts, i think im comming on with a plan, thought i would post it here for people comments, as this is my first go, its proberly rubbish, and its killing time till the little one is born.

Would love to run a HST on here, havent included a yard yet, and ignore the turntable, its just random

Min radius is 10.5". wanted to have some tunnels, but didnt really think i had the space

Comments and criticism welcome

Neil

Hi Neil,
Looks like the start of a good plan with nice sweeping curves for the HST. Just have a small concern about the platform lengths v the length of an HST.
It's worth bearing in mind that with twin track, the outer loop is the Up line and travels clockwise - the Down line travels anti clockwise. Not sure about 3 track though ??? It would help to know so you have the points in the right direction for the running.
What else are you considering running stock wise??
