« on: December 07, 2017, 12:59:34 pm »
It's that time again - Lidl's display cabinets will be available in stores from Thursday 14th December at £59.99 each (no multi-buy offer this year though).

20cm deep seems a lot. ??? From the 5th-6th images I'd have guessed 8-10cm.

That's probably the box size. I just measured mine and the depth of the whole unit is 19cm (back to front of the base and top) and the shelves are 13cm deep.

Just bought one and carried it home. Do you get 2 in a box, it weighs an absolute ton

It's the glass doors and shelves that make it so heavy.

I made sure mine rests on a cupboard, not just trust to wall fixings.

What you guys think of them? Mrs JohnN is threatening to get me one for Christmas. Are you happy with them and how good are they for our n gauge rolling stock?

I have two, but only one is up and in use so far and I've had that one for a few years now. Still not got round to commissioning the 2nd one!

It's a decent cabinet.  The shelf spacing is adjustable down to about 3cm.

Just built mine and I am pleased with it, But I certainly wouldn't wall mount it without a strongly fixed batten under it to take the weight, or as Ntpntpntp says "rests on a cupboard".

I picked one up today. It was always going to be wall mounted.

Before I put it together I sized up the solid back board and temporary fitted it to the wall using 150mm fitting, the sort you would use to fix a kitchen cabinet to a wall. I didn't thing the supplied ones would be up to the job.

It's now built and fixed firmly to the wall ready for loading when I've decided which track to use, peck code 80 or kato track, to display the locos & trains on.

Well pleased.

As a side issue, the first one I pick up in the shop was partly opened and I didn't notice. When I did lift it all the glass fell out of the box in tiny pieces (think auto glass), that was fun!! The member of staff that came to clean up said that was the second time it had happened. So beware.

Thank you for the feedback guys. Much appreciated.

I suppose you could replace the glass shelves with ply ones (or similar) which could be terraformed (track, ballast, embankment etc). This would also significantly reduce the weight and you could have more shelves than supplied.

Just an idea.  :hmmm:
