You can do that in SCARM itself,
in  EDIT > Place Text

Thanks @codger, I had heard of Anyrail before but not investigated it, but doing that little dig I see that it has a 3D facility which sounds good. I'll have to give it a try.

Nice layout, shame about the wee beasties attacking it tho' :(

Yes I know :) and I do :) :) that is one reason I am hanging on to it and was surprised to find another (Anyrail) that could also.

All I need to do now is to see if it is easier to adjust the virtual observer position than it is in Scarm.

PS PDFs are probably good if you want to use italics and bold etc text, cant do that in Scarm ( at least not in our versions of it ! )
