Internal lights
« on: July 18, 2017, 05:49:41 pm »
Does anyone know if any of Kato's locos or carriages come with factory fitted, internal lights?
I know the trams do.

Cheers.

From looking through the Kato catalogue, almost every model has a code for accessory lighting though there are some exceptions. Perhaps members who can read Japanese better than I can help to check if the exception come with integral lights. An example before me is 10-1397 and 10-1398 type E657.

Yes, some do. I have a 253 Narita Express set, which has factory-fitted carriage lighting. Smart, understated looking train. I think the Superview Odoriko (251) may also, but need to dig mine out to check. Most sets, however, have lighting as a separate part.

Edit: Yes, it looks like the Superview Odoriko does have fitted lights...

A really smart looking train.

The Train Hotel has fitted lights

The japanese light sets from Kato are easy to fit and very attractive. So prefitting is reservef for expensive sets.

I have at least three Kato carriages that have internal lights. They are at home and I am at work, ( :'(), but I believe they are 3 different sleeping cars in JNR Blue.

- a very limited number of sets and vehicles come pre-fitted with lights
- pretty much all passenger cars are equipped for easy addition of lighting
- locomotives always have bi-directional forwards lighting, but seldom if ever tail lights
- multiple units and railcars have  bi-directional forwards lighting and tail lights

Thanks for all the info.

The 253 mentioned by Claude Dreyfus above is out of production (as it was withdrawn from service a few years ago), the current version is the E259 (as produced by Kato).

FWIW here's my 253 with the lights on:
