LUGSDALE ROAD - LMS
« on: January 30, 2017, 01:07:35 pm »
Well I have set myself a challenge, my current layout Foster Street had exhibition commitments for 2017 & 2018 and still requires a little finishing.

So I had thought about starting a replacement for the layout which would use all the knowledge and ideas gained from exhibiting to make a layout slightly bigger (if only to justify more big engines - Duchesses on Foster Street apparently only look good to my eyes).

However, I have always kind of liked branch lines, and branch line termini, and I do have quite a bit of GWR stock. So this got me thinking, no way am I going to do a GWR branch line :)

What I have so far come up with is the following criteria, which may change slightly, as time passes.

1. Layout name to be Lugsdale Road (I like the sound of it, any thoughts)
2. Layout to be set in LMS days (quite a wide period)
3. To be no longer than 6 feet including storage yard in length (width ??)
4. To be a terminus.
5. To allow hands free shunting.
6. To have an urban feel, I like dirty buildings.
7. To be to exhibition standard (those who have seen my modelling will agree     this is a big ask).

So all I have to now is get some of my ideas on paper, and then I can start posting my thoughts for you chaps to have a laugh :)

Hello,

I like the name and the general criteria for the layout! Reminds me a bit of my current project whilst at uni: short, dirty buildings, a terminus and hopefully to exhibition standard haha!

Thanks,

Alex

1. Lugsdale Road - I like it. It sounds dirty urban (with apologies to anyone living in a real Lugsdale Road)
2. LMS - why not? You have all the stock :D
3. 6ft in total - admirable but I think you'll find this too short :hmmm:

Personally I believe the terminus track plan for 'Minories' would suit perfectly.

I'm already considering 8ft

Paul,

I'm sorry to be a wet blanket but my take on this is as follows.

A few weeks ago you were hankering after an upgrade to a pukka LMS main line to do justice to your Stanier Pacifics.

Then you told us that a house move is the offing.

Now you're telling us that you're downsizing to a non-roundy-roundy !

I think you need to go back to the negotiating table with the Domestic Overlord.

Good luck !

Joe

Joe

Have no fear, the pukka upgrade is still planned,

A house move is in the offing and the Domestic Overlord has states that I can have a the garage or a bedroom for my trains. :)

I'm not downsizing this is a cunning plan to get another layout along with Foster Street.

I don't negotiate, I lay down the law in my house, then the Domestic Overlord tells me whats happening

Manchester Central perhaps? nice bit of urban grot as it winds into the centre of the city?

Could change the city under it so it's not the central shopping area but a bit more urban grot and mills?

Oh ye of little faith  :P

I've actually managed to get all the plywood profiles cut and I still have all my fingers

All I have to now, is sand them all, and then I can start construction, what could possibly go wrong?  :hmmm: :hmmm:
