A special leaving Durscombe en route to Taunton via Withy Jct and Frome.
The coaches will be joined at Taunton to a Christmas special from Paddington to Cornwall.
The auto coach at the other platform brought passengers @JanW (names?)from Blagdon to join the special there.
The black "thing" at the bottom of the photo is a point lever by Caboose Hobbies. It's for both OO and N and is sprung so the throw of the lever doesn't destroy the point. I think it will be better when it's dulled down a little or I'll move it away and connect it to the point by wire in tube.

Seen later passing under the bridge on the Blagdon road. At the moment single tracked but there is talk of doubling the track.

The passengers were Jan and his wife Liz who are on a holiday in Blagdon.
Avtually they come there quite often because they feel connected to the little village.
Earlier this week they arrived at Blagdon: http://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?topic=39520.msg476533;topicseen#new
It seems that there was a problem with the regular 14xx because there was a 45xx on the train. The driver must have been instucted to be very careful, the 45xx exceeds the weight limit for the branch....
All is well by now and the 14xx is back on duty.

 ;) Jan

A busy moment at Durscombe.
The class 42 is just leaving with urgent liquid supplies for Cornwall. They were attached to the timetabled Bristol to Taunton via Durscombe and Withy Jct.

Another overall view showing the slow progress. The top retaining wall needs to be repaired and a level surface behind so that I can sometime put some low relief terraced houses behind.
The B-set at the LHS is the Durscombe to Bristol calling at all stations waiting to cross to platform 1 when the other trains have cleared the platforms.

Vey belated, additional thanks from me, too, Brian. Very nice to see the trains with 'through' stock. The "Manor" and 14xx look very good, too.

The North somerset Chapter of the CLPG not to be out done have laid on a guards van special over the Christmas period. A bribe in the shape of a Christmas tree for Durscombe station gave them permission to run the special during quiet periods. It's also rumored that a couple of crates of Sam's Cider and Creech Ales and some special winter brews from Cornwall also helped. :beers: . A single malt from Scotland is promised to help the New Year in.

The tree ready to be unloaded.

Having been unloaded the special moves off. With nobody visible on the van platforms there must be some reason for being inside but I can't think what.

Another aerial view. Nobody is quite sure who the photographer is but a tartan hot air balloon was recently seen in the area.

The Christmas tree on the platform ready to be decorated.
The railcar is available for those of a more delicate disposition which is running between Durscombe and Withy Jct.

There is good news that in the New Year the major engineering works at Withy Jct will be started, priorty given for an early finish.

Nice Christmas Tree.  Are you going to put lights on it?
With kind regards

Good to see another guards van special.

With nobody visible on the van platforms there must be some reason for being inside but I can't think what.

Maybe because it's cold enough to cause brass monkeys to lag each other?

Cold enough for the cannon balls to fall from the brass monkey onto the ship's deck.

Many thanks, Brian, for these latest excellent photos. I hope to photograph a 'brake van special' and the arrival of the Christmas trees, too.

Do you have a SR livery SR 'Pillbox' brake van in that train? If not, I have a spare one, here, for you.

Thanks for the comments. The Christmas tree will be decorated somehow. I've got some multi-coloured foam somewhere but can't find it. Memory lapses are common here  :worried:
Possibly the stoves have been lit in the vans and the passengers are availing themselves of Christmas cheer. :beers:
