Thanks everybody. It's been an epic build, but I think it was worth it

I spent the afternoon yesterday making loads for my mineral wagons.
I want to end up with a looooooooong coal train.
I had resin loads for some of them, but they didn't look too realistic, so I have coated them with some of my own artificial coal, and scratch built loads for the others and the hoppers. I eventually want to have only steel mineral wagons, and I can fit six more wagons into the storage siding.
I think I may have slightly overloaded the ore hoppers with granite, but I think that they look okay.
As the hoppers are grey I have assumed that they are non-fitted stock and placed them at the rear of the rake....

and the view from above to get a better look at the loads......

I didn't want to go for more resin loads as they are quite heavy, and if I'm aiming for a long train I need to keep the weight down.

I made them from cardboard, scribing across the load area so that I put a nice curve into it. It is then rolled over and glued to the tab, the ends tucked in, and then black felt tip used to colour the ends and side edges in case the brown shows through. Then it's just a case of applying glue to the load area, then rolling it in the fake coal, adding a few larger lumps if required.

Your coal loads are excellent, Mike. I think I'll use the same method when I get around to making some. I have far too many mineral wagons for the meagre coal loads seen in North Cornwall (mainly loco. coal) so I can use those which already have loads.

I do like to see a rake of mineral wagons on a model railway and yours, including the loads, look especially good.
Excellent.

Father's Day brought a couple of new vehicles to Wookery....

It also brought a horde of grandkids, so I spent Saturday afternoon putting the layout together, placing the buildings where they will be sited, and populating it with all the vehicles I have so far. I took the opportunity to take some photos. I won't bore you all with pics similar to previous posts, but these ones show progress made....

When running trains I realised that the points at either end of the new fiddle yards are vulnerable to trains nosediving off the board, so some perspex was installed at either end to the rear. I have also put perspex along the whole rear yard where clothes may drag stock off if leaning over the board, so the whole layout is now surrounded by perspex on running days.

Very nice, Mike. The MGB Roadster Tartan Red is particularly fine and one is scheduled to appear at Cant Cove once I have made a driver and passenger for it.
