But I think I've missed the point!

Wire in tube is the method of transferring the motion. The source of that motion can be servo, motor or hand lever. I use hand levers and point motors on my layout using WiT depending on location and use. The yard levers are hand thrown points, the access points to the ‘mainline’ are thrown as a pair, push button operated by two point motors hidden under the scenery. These use WiT to reach the points.

In short, whatever works best for the  location and intended usage. It is all WiT though!

In this case, some of the wires extend halfway across the layout, although I'm not using the control snake style ones used in RC aircraft that can bend around corners, they're always an option in a layout where you've got tricky placement of points etc.
Mine could just as easily be done without servos (someone else did similar where they used the electrical connector block bits I used to hook the piano wire to the paperclip on the servo horn as handles for manual WiT).

I wasn't disputing that, it's not something I've ever looked into, so just assumed that it was a manual, mechanical solution. I genuinely didn't know people were using point motors and then simply connecting them to the points with a wire in a tube.

The NMT Pan car has been in the shops to install an upgraded pantograph.  Here it is seen briefly flashing through Deansmoor on a high speed test run.   Container flats in place for brake force.



Not sure where they dredged that old loco up from.   It makes a hell of a racket; like a vacuum cleaner!   Maybe it should have a suitable nickname....Dyson?  ???

 :laughabovepost: you have been busy Jon! Reading between the lines, I have a new armature in the 50 which is now all set for an upgrade, (fed up waiting for the Dapol one!) The pan upgrade works well and the NMT can now run ‘pan up’ at the Nottingham show. The container train now has a reliable end wagon with robust flashing tail light. Good work! 👍

If anyone is coming to the Nottingham Show this weekend (at the Harvey Haddon Sports Centre) be sure to say hi to us as we work hard to keep trains moving on Deansmoor.

You can witness Neal's NMT in action with working pan, various locos with the correct number of buffers and other delights.  ::)

In addition to the new Pendos, the local top brass now have the opportunity to inspect Deansmoor at a stately speed from a front end detailed saloon. (It didn’t look right with a bar headstock!)
