Title: Graham Farish Class 47 'Restormel'
Post by: dannyboy on April 15, 2018, 08:47:53 PM
I have seen advertised for sale on ebay what is described as a GF Class 47, with the running number 47732 and a nameplate 'Restormel'. The engine is in 'RES' red and grey. Having done a quick Google and checked 'N Gauge Resource' and 'Class47.co.uk' I can find no trace of the name 'Restormel' on a Class 47, nor of the running number. (I will check more fully later). Is this a genuine model, or has somebody done a renumbering/naming job? The ebay listing  -
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/123078317995?ul_noapp=true (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/123078317995?ul_noapp=true)
states that the engine is on a CJM chassis. Before I start asking the seller, does anyone have any information please?

Addit: I have just started looking again and have come across a photograph of an engine described as 47732 'Restormel', so it appears that it did exist!

Third photo down:

Incidnelty the seller has had several CJM locos for sale recently, a couple have gone at reasonable money. The 47 in question is defo on a CJM chassis (says so on the under side of the loco in one shot) and looks to be in a CJM box.

Thanks for that Skyline. Now that I have spent a bit more time looking, I have come across this page -
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Class_47_renumbering

Maybe I should have waited a bit before posting the question?

I've seen those, god knows why (or indeed how) he's taken such dismal photos of them. Sure fire way to undersell everything!

It looks like it's numbered 47722 (which was "The Queen Mother") as opposed to 47732, but could well be right given the resolution!

No worries, I have done the same before.

A tip I have found which seems to help when finding specific locos; image search seems to throw up results which are not listed in the text, so check both

Even through the poor pics the quality of the model shows through.

I'm still not convinced by some of his models. This (https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F123078335267) 66 looks inferior to the Farish offering IMO, principally let down by the (obviously) printed lights.

Others are truly stunning though - his 50 stands out IMO.
