Good choice ! Last of the 'propperly built' merc's... keep servicing it and 300,000 won't be a problem !

My Audi is of the same vintage, and just as tough - they really don't make 'em like that anymore !

Too right they don't!
I had the choice of Charlie or a '95 fiesta. The insurance was about £50 more for the Merc - fully comp.
A no brainer which one I'd look at 1st and end up buying really!
I've done over 3000 miles in her, including a few long trips from Cheshire to Kent and back with no problems.
Twice round the clock, which she's approaching, is only really 'run in' on a 190E.  ;)
The motorway seems to be Charlies natural territory.
I swear she cries 'Das Autobahn! Wunderbar!' once she's on it!  :smiley-laughing:

I've got a dark blue Mini One called "The Gronk" (as it looks like one with its somewhat industrial looking alloys) and half own a BRG Cooper S "The Wombat" that I had my first actual drive of yesterday after part owning it for 5 years and passing my test back in march. Fun car :)

more like 50k miles on a semi race clutch. strangely it seems to be behaving again now, I think ive had at least one instance of clutch slip each winter, even on the stock clutch. hmm, maybe there is some funky contraction of something going on somethere, or maybe something icey in the release mech.

Im toying with the idea of moving on from the golf, but my issue is I want all the good stuff from the golf, and then some. Ive been thinking of a V6TDI A6 Allroad, hopefully the air suspension will be a good thing for my back, while the quattro should be good fun. Ive pondered fitting 2x VNT turbos so that I can get the same 2 bar that I get on the golf. Seriously hard on boost hoses though!

The V6 tdi A6 is a quality motor, quite high on my wish list !

Don't know if it's man enough for 2 bar of boost though.... Wouldn't the V8 tdi A8 be better ? (and more comfortable !)
