DCC sound into Dapol Pannier?
« on: June 14, 2017, 05:20:48 pm »
Hi everyone.
I have a Dapol Pannier Tank and I have an 8 pin esu sound decoder. space is not a problem as the chip will fit inside the auto coach. What I want to know is it possible to convert the 8 pin decoder to 6 pin. I know  I would lose some functions but will it work.
Andy advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks all
Andy

P.S. Sorry I have put this in the wrong place could the admin please move it.
thank you
Andy :sorrysign:

Andy, I think you need to get the decoder manual out and establish which pin does what. Although the Pannier has a 6-pin socket, you likely need only 4 pins connected to it (ie pick-ups and motor) with 2 to the speaker. The remaining 2 usually control lighting functions which you don't need on the loco but might use in the coach.

It's quite simple actually but you will probably have to solder (new) leads to the decoder.
Or does your decoder have wires with an 8 pole connector at the end?
Then it would be possible to solder a 6 pole connector to the leads. I don't know where to find these, ebay perhaps?

This wiki page shows te loco interfaces with relevant pins:
