Assuming you picked this up second hand, are you sure the new front bogie with NEM pocket isn't a later addition by someone.

I have a couple of the final  Halls and Castles, all with blackened wheels but none of them have a different bogie other than the then standard one with tiny wheels. Would GF have gone to the trouble of making a new specially designed bogie for such a small run??

Yes, they did on the very last production run of Halls (normal run of 1008 models) - the bogie whas changed for that of one of the newer tool models.

It's worth noting that this was well after production moved to China, so is not an English Poole made model, though does still use some of the tooling.

Of course there will always be a few out there that owners have modified too as you rightly say, but this one generally is a bone-fide factory release.

Cheers,
Alan

Indeed it is Alan and what a difference it makes to the Hall.  It is a shame they did not fit that bogie on the Castle.  Wonder if it would fit and whether Bob at BR Lines has spares.

Thanks Alan, that's really interesting. I must have completely missed them at the time. I wonder if Bachmann have any spares they could send... I have 6 Halls which would look better with these replaced!

Don't forget N-Brass-Locos, who've offered replacement bogies for Farish locos for many years.

Cheers,
Alan

Indeed but if Farish have created a plug in replacement then that would be great.

Looking on BR Lines website they list the Hall/Castle bogie as the same item.  This would seem to indicate that the bogies are interchangeable.  Alas the spare ones do not have your better wheels Alan.

I've been on to Bachmann and just ordered some replacement NEM bogies for my fleet of aging GF Halls and Castles. They work out at £7.50 each plus £2 postage, so not cheap but well worth it to improve the look of the locos.

I've got some of the N Brass ones but have never been very impressed with them. Hopefully these will be better.

Sorry for hijacking an interesting thread BTW.

Hi Ensign Elliott,

So Bachmann actually sell those bogies in the Hall photo?  Could you please confirm who you actually contacted and the part number of bogie you ordered?  I would love to get one for my Castle.

Many thanks

Saw that one pop up on eBay AU and immediately thought of this thread. Pity the box is in poor condition....
DC or DCC, that is the question.

Paddy

How on earth does a box get in that condition whilst the loco looks like new?  :confused1:

Yes. After I saw Dr Al's post I was intrigued so emailed the Bachmann Service help desk on the off chance they might have some still in stock. They came back to me within a hour or two and said they can send me some out. They then emailed me a paypal invoice to pay. I ordered some Duchess and Fairburn accessory bags off them last week in the same way and they arrived a couple of days later. Excellent service!

Email address I use is: Bachmann.Service@bachmann-europe.co.uk

I'm hoping these bogies will fit the Castles as well as the Halls as it will make a real difference - especially being able to run tender first!

Paddy

Brilliant, thanks Ensign Elliott - I will contact them today.

Many thanks
