A really excellent explanation, Jon. A textbook example of how it should be done with highly professional illustrations.

Hi Jon

I agree whole heartedly with Chris's comments, absolutely superb tutorial of your REMIT system. :thankyousign: for taking the time to provide this really useful piece of information.

What size magnet did you use?

I may well put Shenfield on 19th September on my "to do" list.

Cheers :beers:

Mick

Thanks Mick - it was originally prepared for an article in "Red Death"

The magnets I have used were 9mm dia - just what I had to hand.  This is fine for Kato track, but if you were applying the same technique to Peco I think you might have to use smaller magnets, say 6mm, so that they could come up between the rails a little way, to say, sleeper top height.  It would be worth a test though, as the 9mm magnets are good and powerful and offer a larger "target" area.

Cheers  Jon  :)

Both your layouts have been on my bookmark list on Firefox for a while now.  If I had the space to build something door-sized, these would be it

The 37 was new - now less shiny

Jon  :)

:)  When the railway was first privatised back in the 1990s an internal EWS memo stated that "the era of dirty locomotives was at an end" and that all rolling stock was to be kept clean at all times!

Honest, that's what it said.  :smiley-laughing:

Ah, the innocence of know nothing managers who took on the job of running a railway.

If it's not a Diesel Hydraulic then it's not a real locomotive.

Cheers  Jon  :)

:help:  Jon, you have left me seriously depressed after watching those clips.
I think I'll give up the whole idea of railway modelling after watching yours.

While I can effortlessly match the operational side re timetables and correct formations/speeds etc. your actual scenic modelling leaves me so much in the shade that I know now I'll never be a real modeller. :'(

Congratulations on a brilliant layout - a GENUINE model railway in every sense :beers:  and puts mine back in the 1950s in so many ways. :'(

If it's not a Diesel Hydraulic then it's not a real locomotive.

Sadly, it is all true.

So...having got home from the Silverfox exhibition with Deansmoor, Lofthole is "next up" for an outing....

Some may be interested in this - it is my display stand, which I have modified so it can take two layouts for compact storage.  Here is a chance to "compare and contrast" Lofthole and Deansmoor!!!

Deansmoor signeage is still on - this is all attached with Velcro so easy to swap for the Lofthole signeage.

Cheers  Jon  :)

Nice solution... You could always exhibit both at the same time :)

I wish I lived closer and could see both layouts in the flesh, cos they both look fantastic!

Lofthole Oil Terminal is only booked out to one model railway show this year, Shenfield on September 19th. Come and see REMIT couplers in action, Jon will almost certainly let you have a go if you ask!  ;)

Unfortunately we are not listed to attend this show. We appear to have put it in our diaries when asked to attend, but didn't make it to the final cut. Apologies if we have misled anyone. We thought we were booked until we checked the website.  :confused1:

Neal

Thanks for the update, :veryangry:, it's a real shame Jon's efforts cannot be viewed at this event, I was really looking forward to seeing the REMIT in action.  Obviously if Jon has any other bookings for Lofthole in the future keep us posted.

Look forward to seeing it/you there!

TadRail is usually a good show. Not as handy for me since it's moved from Ashlyns school of course, but still a show I make an effort to visit.

Cheers, NeMo

Steady.....I've still got to fill the form in!

But assuming all goes well it will be great to show Lofthole at TadRail again after 6? years - it was Lofthole's first outing and my first show back in the days at Ashlyn's School.

Cheers  Jon  :)
