In the interests of protecting our investments in Revolution Trains, I think it might be a good idea if those that know how to do these things, could start a crowd fund and buy @Ben A (http://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?action=profile;u=94) a hat. He's out in freezing temperatures delivering some speech about how cold it is and yet is endangering himself (and by association, our investments) by not wearing a hat. Perhpas it should be a NGF hat?
Thoughts?
Kirky
PS
For those NGF bods who live outside the UK, we are currently borrowing our weather from Siberia.

I keep seeing references to Ben being on TV, what's the deal? Is he a presenter on something?
???
Hi all,
Thanks. I have a hat - I just take it off 10 secs before they throw to me!
Cheers
Ben A.
:)
Up there Siberian weather??..
Here in the Central Appenino, where I usually go to ski having a family apartment in a residence.....early in the morning was -32,8.. :confused1:
Greetings

Yep, we have our own resident BBC News correspondent in our midst, like a forum celebrity, in several ways!

Sorry Ben ;)
If we're going to club together and get Ben a hat, let's at least get one in keeping, albeit at an even smaller scale than ours:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q4YweifEvMo (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q4YweifEvMo)
Now I'd love to see that one crop up on the telly. Would certainly take the edge off all the bad news.

Perhaps, then, we should get train-size hats for the TOCs, they could whip 'em off 10 secs prior to departure
Huh.
Well, all I can say is he didn't look that smart at Warley when I spoke to him.
:D

How very dare you sir! I'll have you know our Revolution Trains black shirts are the height of sartorial elegance!
On my mistimed visit to the UK I was tucked up in the nearest Wetherspoon's watching poor Ben freezing on Colchester platform. I am a member of the British rail old boys forum and this week Colchester had been among the nominees for the coldest platforms in the UK.
I did see an ITV report later that day also from Colchester so maybe there was something going on, other than Ben being a trailblazer, of course :admiration:

The old station at Thornaby gets my vote, along with Sunderland.
Agree with that one, Malc! :cold:
To add to the off topic part of the thread Stansted Airport gets my vote for being ice cold, well it was the last time I was there (thankfully there is usually a new warm train there), and for the on topic bit I can't add anything.....

Sunderland definitely.
Back on topic, I havent seen Ben on the Telly this morning. Hope the cold hasnt done too much harm. @Ben A (http://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?action=profile;u=94)
:beers:
Ha ha I spent many a time on Sunderland station in me younger days.
However we'll get back to the OP!
We're watching the beast from the east here in Australia! Snow big time!
Going back off topic (which I normally frown upon) my vote for coldest platform is no. 2 at Edinburgh Waverley.
Well it was pretty chilly when I said goodbye to my Edinburgh-based g/f some years ago before boarding my train back to York... because of the total absence of warmth in her farewell, I got on the train knowing that I would never see her again. "It's not you it's me" sprang to my (possibly deluded) mind, and still does.
:'(
Well over her now tho!!
:)
Anyway.
Let's get Ben that hat. A man can never have too many hats.
Reply#10-the next station north from Colchester, Manningtree, is the coldest in the UK-on an embankment, no shelter from wind in any direction, and today the Easterly wind will be blowing right along the river......... :)

Right, so, having all agreed we need to crowdfund Ben a new hat, the next appeal is to crowdfund some therapy for GroupC !!!
:hmmm:
I'm beyond help. If you just want to do the crowdfunding anyway though I'm sure I'll find a use for the cash.

Reporting today from Lincoln, but at least he's indoors in the warm. It's Ben Brown's turn in the cold, having drawn the short straw labelled 'Angel of the North'. :D
Cheers,
Chris (not snowed in, but the dogs and I agreed it wasn't the day for a walk...)
At least they didn't send him to do the A66 snow gates...
Will it be a Graham Farish, Bachmann or Dapol hat? :D :hmmm:
Surely a Cuban Revolutionary hat :D
No sign of Ben on the news today.
He is either stuck in a snow drift, or hopefully packing tankers and licking stamps :D
Hi all,
Nope, day off today. As it happens I do have a couple of hats but I rarely wear them as I tend not to feel the cold too badly.
cheers
Ben A.

The beard is coming on well though @Ben A (http://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?action=profile;u=94) , you going for the ultimate comb over ;) Stay safe out there fella

No hat required here on a balmy Saturday night at the local harbour restaurant ;)
And not a bus stop in sight! ;D
I reckon that the next time Ben is out with Revolution punters will be throwing hats at him. Like what happens with Tom Jones and the ladies, but only a bit like that.
