I run a RHTT with a pair of 37s on Northallerton. I use a sound chipped 37 and a non sound chipped 37. I'm having lots of problems getting the chips to match each other even though I run it as a consist using an ESU ECoS. The two locos often fight against each other and despite my best efforts I think the non sound chip just doesnt have the finesse of the sound chip.
The sound chip is some sort of loksound chip, perhap a couple of years old. The 37 was converted to sound by CR Signals - its an excellent sound and an excellent runner. The chip in the non sound chip is a low cost chip. The two just are not compatible for some reason.
I dont want to run two sound 37s together (cant afford to) but I am prepared to find a better chip for the bog standard 37. Any ideas what I sould buy?

And here's a picture: the DRS is sound chipped, the Network Rail is low cost chip.

Taken a couple of years before much of the scenery was completed.

I would look at fitting a zimo decoder to the non sound fitted 37. The reason I recommend zimo is they are configurable, you will need to speed match the two locos. The easiest way is to lay a oval of track and connect your dcc controller to the oval place both locos on the track in consists a inch apart then run them around added if the gap gets larger or smaller. Then adjust the min, mid and max voltage cvs until the gap remains the same as they run. It's time consuming but worth it

Speed matching your locos is definitely best practice if you're consisting, even if both locos have the same decoder the variance in mechanism tolerances can cause the problems you're experiencing.

That's actually very useful. As a rule I do tend to use decoder pro anyway to adjust my locos but Only as a single unit. But since we have to run two locos together here it makes sense to match them and the tonystrains 'how to' is just what I need. And I even have a circle of Katie track for test running that fits nicely on the kitchen table.
Thanks again
