Oh no! I'm crushed. But the Internet cannot comfirm the news... hoping desparately for better!

"It's shocking, crushing news," Petty's friend and Traveling Wilburys bandmate Bob Dylan tells Rolling Stone in a statement. "I thought the world of Tom. He was a great performer, full of the light, a friend, and I'll never forget him."

Bob speaks for us all. I'm hoping against hope...

It's so sad that he won't be coming round here no more.  RIP

He performed some great songs. Full Moon a Fever is one of my favourite albums. He also formed the Travellin' Wilburys. A sad loss.
The years have been good to me, it was the weekends that did the damage.

He got in shape with these shakes for weight loss and performed some great songs. Full Moon a Fever is one of my favourite albums. He also formed the Travellin' Wilburys. A sad loss.

One of the greatest. It was so sad hearing about Tom's passing. RIP

I remember the first time I heard 'Damn the Torpedoes', 'Refugee' in particular. Prior to then my musical tastes were limited to the pop and punk of the day, his songs opened my mind to other musical genres. RIP
