Improving insulfrog points.
« on: January 29, 2018, 01:49:40 am »
I've acquired a couple of insulfrog curved points. The plastic frogs are quite large and problematic. Has anyone tried improving these by extending the "live area" for which there seems plenty of room. I'm thinking conductive silver paint or even thin foil???

Yes, tried that back in the 70s.  Wasn't very successful.

When I first started out I think Peco used to do some 'Electro-Lit' or something like that for painting  onto the plastic frog.
I'm afraid my solution was extreme and involved the use of a dustbin >:D

Cheers guys. These points aren't really worth using as is so I might just try an experiment - dustbin handy! Thanks for your thoughts.

In all honesty, the simplest way to improve these is to sell them and replace with electrofrog equivalents - if you are buying in future buy electrofrog - they aren't more expensive and will last a lot lot longer and give much better running. Many of mine are 20 years old and still have no obvious wear on them.

Cheers,
Alan

Thanks Doc! you're right. I'm buying electrofrog points now and they run fine straight out of the box. Much appreciate the help I've received from members of this forum such as yourself.
