Any Ancient Rockers out there?
« on: January 03, 2018, 05:14:30 pm »
My other hobby. electric guitars and rock. Former player, repairman and valve amp builder with - currently - around 20 instruments. Also build mandolins and stuff. Still play odd gig with ancient pals. All guitar music but my thing is electric blues - first  found the blues in the late 1960's - and, funnily, I've still got them! "I woke up one morning! Oh not again!"

To my eternal disappointment, I never learned an instrument as a young lad.
I decided at age 60 to learn guitar. Really enjoying it, though itís harder than  i thought but am getting there (slowly).
Never really been a blues fan but Iíve taken a liking to playing them
It's you railway so build it as you want and run whatever you like. The only rule is - ENJOY :

Not really ancient at 59 but recently retired as VP and member of a back patch MC. Still going to the wild parties etc but I try to avoid the dust ups these days and I still ride as much as I can. Never learned to play an instrument though one of my uncles tried teaching me to play the saxophone when I was a young teen but I wouldn't have the breath for it now.

Ex 'Hell's Cherub'  and used to ride big Triumphs in the 1970s. Have always enjoyed 'proper' R & B, rock, progressive rock, pomp rock and blues and still do. Also like folk and a lot of classical stuff. I can play comb and paper but have never managed any other instrument. I know my vocals are good as the neighbours bang on the wall for more. In my 20s I used to be backing vocals with a local pub band doing covers of rock classics.

I've played guitar on and off since I was a teenager, but not what I'd consider to be anywhere near good.

My daughters gave me a red American Fender Strat for my 60th which hardly ever comes out of the case!

I sold my 750cc Triumph T150V a few years ago, but I still have three smaller machines, all of which are older than me!

With regard to music, I'm merely an audience.  Ideally Elgar for the evening and Eric Coates for the afternoon.

Take care and stay upright!

The Table-Top Railway is a train set trying and failing to be a model railway.

I believe that train sets and model railways are fun.

I sold my 750cc Triumph T150V a few years ago

Always wanted a Trident but never found a decent one at a suitable price. :'(
I started with a Tiger 100 then went to a 750cc Tiger and thence to a Bonneville.
I've been in touch just recently with the Triumph Owners Motor Cycle Club (TOMCC) to see if they can source any back copies of their monthly mag at the time - Nacelle - as I used to be the 'Scribe' for the Northampton branch.

I used to be a rocker, but with all the weight iíve Put on recently, more of a roller now.
I did play bass in my misspent youth and did a few radio sessions, but after an accident with a lawn mower that went off while I was cleaning it, had to give up.
Bought a Strat copy and an amp last year and am thrashing through some of the old 60s classics.
I'm not sure if life is passing me by, or trying to run me over.

My first / only / last contact with Rock was a large black disc entitled "Rock Around the Clock" by Bill Haley and His Comets. I considered that there was no future in it

!

A few years later a friendship with John Barbirolli introduced me to (edit ! - the music of ) Haydn. Happy times in Manchester. (Those in the know will connect with Halle Orchestra )

Howzat for a name drop :)

What you guys need is one of these :-

Music and railways combined. What's not to like? Well I couldn't resist it.

I'm the clown on the right. For the nosey - the guitar's a Sovereign SV1 Special.
