Incidentally, whilst I've got packs of "People With Cellphones (Standing)" and  "People With Cellphones (Sitting)" from Kato, I've looked in vain for "People With Cellphones (Strange Poses When Trying To Get A Signal)" :confused1:

Ah, that would be because in Japan you have to go implausibly far into the mountains before you start losing your cellphone signal. Mind you it does help that Japan, despite being twice the size of the UK, is about 90% inhospitable mountainside.

Here is my latest purchase. The Kato Shiki Shima (Train Suite) It is a stunning model with a detailed interior, and superb roof detail. Arrived Friday 5th Jan direct from Japan. I pre-ordered it from Model Trains Plus, it cost me including shipping 220.96. Plus the bonus is it sailed through customs without being hit for VAT.

It is one of the best Japanese N gauge models I have seen and owned. My photos do not do it justice. The front and tail lights are as the real train, the lights on the tables light up also. If you can, get one as a lot of places have sold out.

A stunning model, but costs as much again to equip for DCC (separate decoders needed for the motor, two for the running lights, and one for the lights on each car).

A great addition from GreenMax is the Plasser & Theurer KSP2002E dynamic track stabiliser with integrated ballast profiling unit. I suspect this little unit will find favour on many layouts beyond Japanese shores too.

Mine initally grounded on the pointwork. Turned out to be because the lug holding the wheels into the motorised bogie had not been engaged. Once clicked properly into place it ran very well, with cab lights and, given enough power, engine lights too.

Runs at a realistically slow speed.

Would be nice to equip this for DCC but it is not obvious how this could be done. See the photos below to get an idea of what it looks like.

With profiler arms extended

With profiler arms retracted

Underneath, but no sign of how to access the innards to fit a DCC decoder. The instruction sheet does not seem to mention DCC either.

Mine will arrive tomorrow. All I need now is about 2m of track to display it on!
I'm hoping the piano is tuned to A=440 :)
