Hi all, long time no speak. After yet another hiatus, two years this time, i'm having another go.After putting a tiny amount of track down I tried to test it out with a Farish GWR Railcar. This has come out of the box for the first time in over 25 years and didn't get a lot of use before then. It doesn't seem to want to run in one direction. turning it upside down and testing one bogie only seems to run off one axle. On the other bogie (both axles) it makes noise and the gears seem to want to move but don't. What shall I do? :worried:
split gears?
Fossilised grease in gear towers?
the body should lift off with the aid of a key ring store card / thinned old credit card along hte join between lower edge of body and chassis
as to removing the gear towers - There should be an expert along in a few minutes!
however a blast with switch cleaner ( NOT with body on - may damage some plastics/paint) could reveal some of the possible problems
A search in "Train Surgery" for "Farish poole railcar" found a number of useful articles including:

It'll have split gears - likely as well as the bogies also within the block (there is a reduction gear stage within the block) and running only one bogie probably confirms this.
Reasonably simple repair, as very common on these, all parts are still available from BR Lines.
Cheers,
Alan
