Long time lurker finally biting the bullet
« on: November 19, 2017, 11:17:22 am »
Hi from a long time lurker. I originally joined a couple of years ago but a family emergency and then a house move put paid to any layout activity. Things have now settled down enough that I can spare some (limited) time to devote to a layout again. In the meantime, I have enjoyed reading the forum and learning a lot from its members.

My backgroud is the usual story of being into model making (Airfix, Matchbox, Frog) and model trains as a kid which then trailed off as adulthood approached. Over the last 7 or 8 years, I have gotten back into these hobbies and after a false start back in OO,  a neighbour's efforts in N tempted me enough to switch and I would never go back.

I've built a couple of layouts over the past few years, but these were mainly track and basic buildings only. Great for watching trains go by and learning new techniques but all have been dismantled and recycled apart from a DC test loop used to run in locos and practice electrickery and scenery.

I don't know much about prototypical operations so please feel free to educate me if I incorrectly refer to things. I am a DCC user and love Southern and Western, both in grouping and transition eras. My current project is a round the room (3rd bedroom come office) based upon main line passenger services and hopefully a loco depot and some coaching sidings. Rule one means although it'll be loosely based upon the West of England line (think Woking, Basingstoke etc) I will be running not just Pacifics or Castles but earlier GW and SR stock (but not necessarily at the same time).

Looking forward to joining in the fun.
Thanks, John.

Hi John, pleased to read you. Looking forward to reading more - though my own interests are very modern, I do have a soft spot for GWR.

Hi John, and welcome aboard
I notice your location is '34020' which to me means Seaton :hmmm:
(just to show I'm paying attention in class)

Although you have been a 'lurker' for a while now, welcome all the same.
David.
I used to be indecisive - now I'm not - I don't think.

Thank you for the welcomes guys. I've been on a few different types of forums over the years and this is definitely one of the friendliest.

NPN, congrats and go to the top of the class. I was wondering who'd spot that. Yes, we're at the end of the old Southern branch. If I had the room available I might have had a go at Seaton Junction but couldn't do it justice at the moment.
