Given the choice I'd go for the spare room as it is likely to be more temperature controlled and closer to all the amenities ;)

Yup, my brother pointed out that the garage would be a bit chilly in winter. Spare room it is :)

My brother mentioning the garage being cold in winter reminded me of dad's old layouts in the extended shed (unfortunately OO) which was impossible to heat in the winter and involved frostbite if you wanted to play with the trains. and as newportnobby mentioned, indoors means amenities, plus it's that bit more secure.

Next up. thinking how much space to actually use and how to make it properly portable when I do next move. (or do I simply build it to be great and break it up when I move?)

Maybe think along the lines (sorry) of a modular layout such that your next move would just mean extra boards or removing the odd one or two.

Had a day off today so thought I'd put some effort in to get the last of the point motors fitted !!

Also had a couple of dropper wires to fit in the fiddle yard that I missed when I first fitted the scissors crossings, so it was easier to actually get the north board out in the middle of the kitchen (don't ask ::) ) to dismantle the backboard for access. It's the first time it's been apart from the other board in months as most of the time it's all packed up resembling a 6' high "wardrobe".

Droppers done, last 10 point motors fitted out of a total of 34, just have to wire them and six more back to the control panel and I can FINALLY start on the scenic work - HURRAH  ;D

Great news that the tedious stuff is out of the way - looking forward to seeing this layout develop, and the HSTs
Just one Pendolino, give it to me, a beautiful train, from Italy

Thanks  :)

To add to the good feeling I was browsing Ebay today (never a good move  :smiley-laughing: ) and found someone selling NINE Farish PGA hoppers in the livery I've been slowly collecting a rake of for the past year - 50 quid and free postage!  :P

Needless to say I couldn't press the buttons on my Blackberry quick enough ;D That's another rake of stock now completed.

Nice one, Paul. Thanks for the tip off re the three Freightliners and your kind offer to buy the two I won't require. If it's OK with you I put in a bid of £900 - do you think we'll get 'em??

In April 2024 I will be raising money for Cancer Research UK by doing at least 100 press-ups every day.  Feel free to click on the picture to go to the donations page if you would like to help me to reach my target.

To follow the construction of my layout "Longcroft" from day 1, you'll have to catch the fish below first by clicking on it which isn't difficult right now as it's frozen!

Just seen in our local area newspaper that our (out in the sticks) village BT exchange is to go 'fibre' next year
Giving us up to 80meg connection speed as opposed to the 2meg (I`m struggling) rubbish that we have had for several years now

The only problem with that is you might be posting in the angry thread when you find out what prices they will charge for it  :o
