Size matters - especially if you don't have a lot of space - and N gauge is the answer!

This might set the cat among the pigeons but.......................................

People who start sentences with 'So.....'

If I'd done that at school I'd have had the blackboard rubber hurled at me with unerring accuracy

So, is that like, literally actually, know what I mean, like? :hmmm:

Like you I find this destruction and misuse of our fine English language so....... irritating, and sometimes feel the blackboard rubber of our school days should be upgraded to a brick.
Well, just sometimes.

This is one of my pet hates too! Perhaps i'm just getting old and grumpy but whenever someone starts with 'Like' I think to myself 'Like' WHAAAAT!?!? Amongst other things!  ;)
'Keep it country!'

'Head in the clouds, feet in the mud!'

so
səʊ/
adverb
1.
to such a great extent.
"the words tumbled out so fast that I could barely hear them"
2.
to the same extent (used in comparisons).
"he isn't so bad as you'd think"
conjunction
1.
and for this reason; therefore.
"it was still painful so I went to see a specialist"
2.
with the aim that; in order that.
"they whisper to each other so that no one else can hear"

I don't see any definition there that denotes you could grammatically start a sentence with it ;)

So the english language cant change and modify  like it has over hundreds,no thousands of years just because a few dont like it.if the bastardisation of english is such a problem why not use american english, after all its closer to the english used by will shakespear than wot we speak in england today
freedom of speech is but a  fallacy.it dosnt exist here

Language is a dynamic, constantly changing thing. No one thirty years ago would have ever used the words Google, Twitter, Instagram, etc. Would anyone in the 19th century have known the word "Biro" referred to a pen?

That's as maybe and, like a lot of people, I have to accept that, but it does not mean I like it.  :)

Incidentally, I dislike it when people say "Going forward" - what is wrong with "In future"?  ???
David.
I used to be indecisive - now I'm not - I don't think.

I guess everyone dislikes certain things in life but for me its Banks and their high fees, Oil Companies ripping people off, Supermarkets making disgusting profits, Drug Companies charging the earth for what is life saving medication for some.

Nothing bugs me worse than manufacturers releasing new models of things like Digital Cameras and Computerised things more often than some people change their underpants, this continual plundering greed on peoples wallets and purses is sickening.

Last of all I hate the fact that here in Australia the gap between the haves and have nots had grown so wide, on one hand we have these stuck up Yuppies snubbing their noses at everyone and everything, on the other hand we have people barely surviving on their earnings and getting slugged by massive electricity bills and such.

Other than that I guess I have my health at the moment and to me that is the most important, the rest is just a fact of modern day living, would also be nice to see people become more tolerant to each other, its just as easy to say something nice to someone as it is to say something bad.

i have just started to read this thread ( got a long way to go ) and i totally agree with everything you have said.  :thankyousign:

My bulling bosses say that all the time " Going forward " the FLM (First Line Manger) was just a driver and i was given the task of training all new drivers, he was and still is a lazy so and so. We were always asked to go and help him, well 2 of us mostly, because he was struggling with his delivery's.

Can't wait until i retire this year and a few home truths will be told.

I can't stand bullies in any shape or form. EX partners are one, they and the people they employ are out and out scavengers. The way they say " I am having this and i don't care what you think " is in my opinion is telling you to get stuffed.

I am really sorry for my little rant, i am not really a grumpy old man honest.

Well, "Going forward" implies 'I am doing this now, and will continue to do so' whereas "In future" implies 'manyana'. :D :sorrysign:

I know what you mean, though.
