Help please. Does anyone know a source for KESR Coaches
« on: June 10, 2018, 01:04:19 pm »
Have been trying to locate some KESR coaches to use on my layout. The LMR used a number of them, it seems, in the late 30's and I have found a number of pictures of their use, below are a couple for reference..

Does anyone know of a kit that is available or one that could be converted?

Thanks in advance

Dan

Have seen some on Shapeways. :hmmm: Not in N, but the designer might be able/willing to rescale if asked.

Curiously compressed proportions - I assume that's just the image?

KESR = Kent and East sussex?
LMR = Longmoor Military Railway?

(I run european models so not really familiar with all the UK railway abbreviations)

Sorry @ntpntpntp yes you are correct on your abbreviations, not 2 of the most commonly used ones.
They do look 'stocky' in all the pictures. Have tried to work out length by comparing to the old midland railway brake van in the first picture.

Like most Colonel Stephens stock, that on the KESR was an eclectic mix of second-hand from various sources and home-made bodges such that each vehicle was effectively a one-off.

It depends on how accurately you want to replicate individual vehicles. If you want 100% replicas, there is nothing ready to run available and I don't know of any specific kits in 2mm/N, though there have been brass kits in 4mm scale for several vehicles. (possibly Worsley Works). If you just want a generic "in the style of" Light Railway rake, then you could use the Farish four wheelers and the older 'suburbans' as a staring point and modify to taste (maybe shorten by a couple of compartments).
