A streamlined B17 by Derek Rutherford
« on: April 26, 2018, 08:06:30 pm »
About once a year (its all I can afford) I indulge in a masterpiece in steam by Derek Rutherford.  For those that know his work he is the CJM of steam.  Previous purchases have included a Hush Hush a P2 and this lovely model of a streamlined B17, which I have now duly converted to sound.  There are still a few tweaks on timing to do but regardless enjoy.

I am aware of Derek's work and have visited him at home. Some of the locos in his wall cabinets are just awesome!

I have not had that pleasure yet.

NB on the video the cab is a bit low as I had missed out a piece of packing to level it up with the tender. :)

Derek is a forum member (east anglian) but has not been logged on since early Jan this year. I sometimes bump into him at shows and train fairs as he seeks out suitable chassis.

Yes, I get two prices, with and without supplying my own chassis and as I convert to DCC sound it means I can run them in before I send them to him.

Very nice indeed, a true one off. I didn't realize that some B17s had received A4 style streamlining, it suits them. If anyone is interested here is a history of the B17, including reference to the 2 that were streamlined:

I can't help thinking it looks like a baby Mallard (although by no means an ugly duckling!!!). Thanks for sharing the video.

Derek does fantastic work.

Not had the pleasure of meeting him yet but do have one of his Hush Hush masterpieces on the way.

Thanks Derek

Sorry. No website. I can only suggest you drop Derek a PM but (a) you may not get a quick reply and (b) his models are not cheap!

Does he only tend to do LNER loco's?

No he is currently working on a batch of GWR streamlined castles.

Does anyone know if he does any proper loco's, y'know, LMS one's?

[Put's on tin hat and ducks below parapet]

Just kiddin'.

Mightily impressed with the pictures I've seen so far.

Loads of them. I do recall seeing both maroon and blue streamlined Duchesses in his display cabinet along with at least one unrebuilt Patriot
